A Texas police officer trying to shoot at a barking dog killed the woman he was there to help during a welfare check, authorities say.

A caller reported a woman passed out in a grassy area in Arlington on Thursday evening. Arlington police officers, the fire department and EMS were dispatched to the scene to conduct a welfare check, officials said.

When the officer approached the woman, he noticed an unrestrained dog nearby, the Arlington Police Department said in a statement.

Agreed, prayers up for this lady. Horrible way to go.

Also praying for the Officer. Doubt he woke up this morning hoping to shoot an innocent person. Can’t imagine having to live with that.

Local news on this today didn’t seem to offer much detail.

Have any of these chucks ever heard of dog spray?

WTF is wrong with these people?

This is inexcusable. Do cops down there not carry pepper spray? The use of deadly force should always be a last resort employed only when all other measures are insufficient and there is an immediate danger of death or grave bodily harm. I am F——ing sick of cops who think a loose pet is a call for target practice.

This LEO is a public menace and should be prosecuted for manslaughter.

As the officer began to approach what appeared to be a woman lying in the grass,
he noticed there was also a loose dog, police said in a news release.

As the officer called out to the woman repeatedly concerning her welfare, the
dog began to run towards the officer while barking.

The officer walked backwards from the running dog while drawing his gun.

The officer fired it multiple times towards the dog.

“After the shots were fired, the woman yelled out and it was apparent she was
injured,” police said in the news release.

The woman was rushed to the hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
She was later identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner as
30-year-old Margarita Victoria Brooks.

They have their share of wackjobs. I knew of one mailman spraying a tiny elderly blind dog with no teeth, and another would go out of her way just to spray a dog in a fenced in area. Seems like some of them like dogs, not all of them.

It’s the ones that don’t bark while running towards you that you have to worry about.

Exactly!

Has a dog ever killed a mailman? Do mailmen carry guns?

If the body cam was turned on, and if the data wasn’t corrupted or lost.

My UPS deliveryman always brings dog treats. My dog runs to greet him and jumps into his truck begging for a treat. The cops should carry dog treats, it would solve a lot of problems. But I guess they will not get gun target practice opportunities.

Even pepper spray would have been a better option. Dogs, with their very sensitive noses, do not like capsaicin one bit.

If he's a sociopath, he probably slept like a baby.

One of the talk shows I listen to has a prison psychologist as a frequent guest. (IIRC Dr. Clarissa Cole)

In the course of her career she would do psyche evaluations on police department applicants to weed out the sadists, the ones with control and rage issues, the ones with narcissistic personalities, the ones who exhibited frank psychopathy, she was horrified to find that many of the people she utterly failed were hired anyway. Many, not just a few MANY.

Dad and granddad were on the force, he’s a friend of the mayor, the local alderman owes him a favor, etc., etc., etc...

Sometimes the person who should never ever ever be trusted with authority over any of his fellows humans would simply apply elsewhere where the screening wasn’t as diligent.

These guys and gals need to be weeded out.

What I can’t ascertain: Did she die by gunshot wound from the officer? This story feels like the editors really stepped on this quite a bit.

You’re right. And so this would be a good question at the cop’s criminal trial: Officer, you carried both pepper spray and a taser. Why didn’t you deploy either one of those devices against the dog?

I kid, of course. Their will be no criminal trial. Internal Affairs has probably already stamped “Justifiable” on the shooting report.

TRANSLATION:

The dog was in a direct line between the cop and the woman, protecting the woman from the uniformed psychopath with a gun.

The dog wasn’t doing anything, wasn’t attacking anyone, was just there. Why did he shoot at it?

Because that's what the Blue Gang does.

Idiot thug that needs to spend the rest of his life in jail. And fire whatever moron hired and/or trained him.

Shoot at my dog and the only question will be whether it’s 300 Weatherby or .50 Beowulf coming back at you, I value my dog’s life more than any being on this planet except my wife’s.
