If Everyone Tripped on Psychedelics, We’d Do More About Climate Change (11.37 years left, dude)
Vice ^ | June 27, 2019 | Shayla Love

After taking LSD, Bill stood in his kitchen in Merseyside, England, staring at a large tree. When the tree started to speak to him, Bill only found it strange that the tree didn't formally introduce itself, he told VICE in 2017.

During the rest of their 15 minute chat, the tree clued Bill in to the profound fact that all life on earth—plant, animal, and human—was intimately connected. "It was as if someone was inside my head judging my feelings, my thoughts, and my emotions," Bill said. "It was also a two-way street, though: I could feel how old he was—he's obviously been through a lot with the way the earth is and how the town I live in was built up around him."

Anyone who has tripped—especially outdoors—knows that psychedelics, like LSD, mushrooms, DMT, or mescaline, can provoke sensations of awe and wonder at the natural world. This has been replicated in more formal settings too—in January 2018, scientists from Imperial College London found that psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms, led to a significant increase in feelings of connection to nature after just one dose. Seven to 12 months later, that increase persisted...

...Psychedelics have been shown to help with addiction, anxiety, and depression. But outside the scope of mental illness, researchers are also asking how they can change personality traits and beliefs. An increase in nature-relatedness has been shown to be a unique predictor of happiness. But it is also associated with the planet’s well-being: There's a demonstrated link between having a relationship to nature and pro-environmental behavior.

Bill was so tripped out that he was talking to a tree, but he knows it was a 15 minute conversation? And it’s uncanny how the tree affirmed all of Bill’s viewpoints. LSD or not, Bill had no such conversation with a tree. This gets filed under “Stuff that never happened”.

You have to be mentally deficient to believe in catastrophic man-made climate change.

Mental deficiency can stem from multiple sources....drugs, blunt trauma, indoctrination and genetic disorders.

Dear Environmentalists,

If you actually love the environment, and you love to spend time outdoors as I do, then why would you put the well being of that environment into the hands of government, which obviously cares about nothing outside of money and power?

Well, you would do this, because you also obviously only care about money and power.

Yes, all living things are connected by the spiritual energy that animates them, and government is evil.

One does not need LSD to observe or understand these things.

In my opinion, as one who has used LSD plenty of times, what it does is make your mind race to foolish conclusions sprinkled with irrational and chaotic thoughts, and that is no benefit when it comes to thinking, which is one of the things Man is supposed to do.

The atmosphere is 78 percent Nitrogen, 21 percent Oxygen, and Argon is .822 percent of the atmosphere, but found 23 times as much as CO2. Water vapor makes up almost the rest.

Co2 is a TRACE element.

Climate science is debatable but we indeed are connected to all life on this planet and nobody should be dumping known sh** where we all eat. Smog filled air that blocks the sun and toxic rivers/earth should never be acceptable by any society.

It’s strange how many “forget” we all come from the earth and cannot survive without a healthy living planet beneath our feet.

America has made great strides in cleaning up. However, what China is now doing to the air and oceans should be considered an act of war.

If you watch tv, you will see a commercial for a water purifying device that removes everything leaving pure water. The existing purifier is perfectly capable of removing the most objectionable molecules.

The wise left wing daughter is not content with any molecules but water. She says it tastes better. Pure water has no taste.

The “everything is connected” insight is pretty common during after LSD trips.

Those are not correct numbers. The clain that most CO2 originates naturally is correct, but most CO2 is also absorbed naturally also (they leave that part out). That means the 3% or so manmade (your source seems to say 5%) is not balanced by any absorption. The rise from 280ppm to 410ppm is manmade. There is no other viable explanation.

Volcanoes didn't suddenly accelerate and cause the current 2-3 ppm rise per year. There is not enough warming oceans from 500-1000 years ago causing current warming. That warming is causing some of the current rise but cannot possibly cause 2-3 ppm per year. That would require about 0.1C of warming for each of those ppm. Didn't happen, can't explain the rise. That leaves biosphere changes. Those are a bigger unknown and they add a fudge factor to fossil to account for deforestation.

But regardless of all that, the key issue is the very modest (and net beneficial) warming caused by CO2 increases.

CO2 is a trace. But there’s enough molecules of it that an IR photon with the right wavelength will be intercepted by a CO2 molecule in less than 50 meters. More molecules means a short mean path to interception. Upon interception, the CO2 molecule immediately transfers that energy to surrounding O2, N2, etc. That is global warming.

We call ourselves green because we love plants but we oppose carbon dioxide.

Leftists are perpetually irony-deficient.

“why would you put the well being of that environment into the hands of government, which obviously cares about nothing outside of money and power”

Right, corporations would do so much better if left alone. They would never pollute if not for the greedy government making them do it.

Unlike the evil goverment, they respect our living environment unconditionally. Out of their great love for the Earth, they’ll cut as deep into their own profits to keep us all clean.

There has to be a balance but that balance must favor private ownership. The results of gov. ownership are disaster. Look at the California fires for example. Private lands had less severe wildfire and none of the catastrophic fires started on private land.

Bill is really going to flip his wig when he finds out that the current climate change is actually beneficial to some of the oldest and biggest of trees on the planet.
