Secret texts cast light on UK's early role in Trump-Russia inquiry
MSN ^

Two of the most senior intelligence officials in the US and UK privately shared concerns about “our strange situation” as the FBI launched its 2016 investigation into whether Donald Trump’s campaign was colluding with Russia, the Guardian has learned.

Text messages between Andrew McCabe, the deputy director of the FBI at the time, and Jeremy Fleming, his then counterpart at MI5, now the head of GCHQ, also reveal their mutual surprise at the result of the EU referendum, which some US officials regarded as a “wake-up call”, according to a person familiar with the matter.

While Russia had previously been viewed as a country that would seek to interfere in western elections, the Brexit vote was viewed by some within the FBI as a sign that Russian activities had possibly been successful, the person said.

Their exchanges offer new insights into the start of the FBI’s Russia investigation, and how British intelligence appears to have played a key role in the early stages.

In one exchange in August 2016, Fleming noted that members of the FBI and MI5 had “met on our strange situation”, a veiled reference to discussions about Russian activities, according to the source. The text messages between the two men were infrequent and cryptic and did not contain specific or sensitive materials, but occurred with some regularity after the referendum in June 2016.

A spokesperson for McCabe declined to comment.

The exchanges underscore a sensitive issue in the US – namely the role foreign intelligence services played in the FBI’s decision to initiate an investigation into the Trump campaign.

On 31 July 2016, the FBI opened a covert counterintelligence investigation codenamed “Crossfire Hurricane” into the then-presidential candidate’s possible collusion with Russia.

Man we sure have clowns in high places.

The United Kingdom isn’t free from it either.

You can take this to the bank.

If a Leftist person or policy fails, it will never be acknowledged as failing because the policy advocated or implemented was bad.

Russia was a convenient whipping boy for the Left.

That’s it, pure and simple.

Therefore Russia had to be responsible for Brexit and the Trump win.

After all, everyone loves the E. U. Everyone loved Hillary Clinton. Hack, cough, spit...

the uk seems currently in a state of free fall towards an october 31 crash landing on brexit. this makes me wonder if johnson has given advance consideration to the need for time to clean house, and if so, if the october 31 hard brexit promise calculus includes DS operative housecleaning... yikes...

Devin Nunes has stated that he believed the illegal activity against Trump began in late 2015. That’s why he has been pushing for the declass of Brennan’s EC that launched the FBI’s formal role.

Baloney. British intelligence did not make American intelligence aware of something they discovered. They invented it out of whole cloth. There were no suspicious contacts between the Trump campaign and anything Russian. This is 100% fiction, a false flag from gchq, MI5, the FBI, and CIA.

Our Intel agencies did not skirt our law. They flip the finger to it and ignored it. It’s pure sophistry for them to claim they’re not spying on Americans when they contract somebody to do it on their behalf in exchange for services and money. you’re spying on Americans whether it’s the CIA doing it, or whether the CIA goes to British intelligence and says please spy on these Americans. It’s still violates our law, that’s why the program was secret. It’s the academic difference between murdering someone, and hiring a hitman.

The one thing that doesn’t make any sense in this entire mess is if there was truly russian interference in out elections, then all candidates would need protection or investigation.

The narrative says Russia has been interfering in our elections for years. If so, then why did they wait so long to look at it? And why wasn’t Hillary investiged too?

Rather than investigating a national security risk, they chose instead to make it personal by poi ting the finger at a particular individual rather than the voting system and what means were used to manipulate it.

The issue was made personal because it WAS personal. So, without the relization that the entire mess was a false flag vendetta against Trump personally, none of it makes any sense at all.

If Russian meddling were an actual problem, an investigation would have been years old and ongoing with all Presidential candidates being afforded protections or something.

mariner's post worth repeating:

"The key takeaway here is that members of the Obama admin conspired with British Intelligence to investigate (and prosecute) a sitting US President. On a bogus “crime” with manufactured evidence. That’s TREASON by definition for all US participants. And an Act of War by the British against the United States."

I am convinced that this little arrangement between the Brits and our FBI is the reason that president Trump has NOT released all the classified documents associated with the entire “collusion” investigation.

My guess is the Brits have begged president Trump to not release classified docs as they would be very embarrassing to our “good friends”.

Yes, that’s a good logic trail.

In months before the election, Obama even pulled folks off an investigation of it.

There was no need for one.

Now Russia caused Brexit?

Obama going there to meddle in their vote and threaten them if they voted ‘wrong’ undoubtedly had more effect.

And Italy, Australia, and the Ukraine.

Italy has apologized for being drug into it. The Ukraine has turned over evidence of previous official’s collusion with the Clinton Campaign.

Russia/Soviets have been attempting to meddle in our elections for a century. The Soviets were heavily invested in the labor unions, the civil rights movement, and various anti-war movements. The recent stuff is pretty darn paltry.

That’s pretty much an open secret.

The two intelligence agencies work closely together, and cordially enough that it is even possible that few in the Brits agencies were aware it wasn’t a real investigation. We have an agreement that our CIA won’t operate in their country - that if we need something, we ask and they will run the op and retain sovereignty.

And that’s something that makes the actions even more egregious: there are traditionally briefings to all candidates on how to recognize and resist infiltrations of their campaigns by foreign agents. Here, the FBI pointedly did not do them with the Trump campaign, even pointedly so in the case of Lt Gen Flynn.

Leftist scum on both sides of the pond hated Brexit and Trump. The fact that Brexit passed and Trump was elected shows how lost these people are. They thought that their cronies in the MSM and Education Establishments had successfully brainwashed the proles. Blank them.
