GOP Holds Voter-Registration Advantage in Races for Governor and President
Governing ^ | JUNE 26 2019 | ALAN GREENBLATT

Republicans have reasons for optimism heading into this fall’s elections for governor. All three of this year's races -- in Kentucky, Louisiana and Mississippi -- are being held in the South, a region where the party is already dominant.

There’s at least one other factor playing in the GOP’s favor: party registration.

Democrats may still have the lead in total voter registration in Kentucky and Louisiana, but Republicans are clearly gaining strength. (Mississippi doesn’t register voters by party.) Republicans are also gaining relative strength in some of the states expected to be competitive in the 2020 presidential election. Republicans have been doing better than Democrats, for example, in the sizable swing states of Florida and Pennsylvania.

Yeah but unless we SERIOUSLY start courting the dead, it will always be close.

Best idea is to make a pitch geared towards them, like new flowers placed once a month and a promise that weeds will be cleared regularly.

It’s a demographic we CANT afford to lose.

Well, they had best begin thinking about holding the VOTE HARVESTING advantage also where it’s legal.

Somebody once said, regarding elections, if it’s not close, they can’t cheat.

Isn’t it a fact, that in close elections and recounts, that the Democrat always gains votes, the Democrat almost always wins? Even in the Florida 2000 situation, Al Gore picked up over 1000 votes in that razor thin election, before the Supreme Court effectively shut down the recounts.

So even though Gore and Democrats didn’t prevail, even that situation showed Gore gained votes.

I have concerns about this “vote harvesting” business. And related to that, how it is, that vote counting continues for weeks after election day nowadays, and it seems that Democrats always gain votes as the vote counting continues.

Bottom line seems to be, unless the Republican, for president or any other office, has a big enough lead on election night, the Democrats will chip away as counts and recounts happen.

No Gore did not gain votes. Bush was gaining votes. The New York Times did a story on it.

I absolutely share your concerns, FRiend Dilbert.

But RAT cheating didn’t work here in last November’s senatorial and gubernatorial races here in Florida.

It was way too close, but as you may have read, a lot of malfeasance was uncovered in Broward and Palm Beach counties, and the election supervisors dismissed.

Of course, they should have been sent to Raiford, but you take what you can get.

I know Rick Scott is not universally popular among FReepers, but he was an effective governor on most issues. And my neighbor’s yellow Lab would have been a better senator then Bill Nelson.

As for Ron DeSantis, what a fine governor he’s turning out to be in just a few months. No disrespect to Greg Abbott, but I think he’s the best of the large state governors. Of course, against Newsom and Cuomo, a box of rocks would look good.

DeSantis is turning out to be a GREAT governor I am surprised he has turned out to be as good as he is I am a little surprised didn’t think he had it in him!!! I have also been surprised at how GREAT a POTUS Trump has turned out to be, don’t get me wrong I was with him right out of the gate BUT he is truly a GREAT POTUS and the strength he has under the circumstances he has had to deal with!!! Cruz would NEVER have been this great a POTUS, NEVER in a million years!!!

This aligns with the #s I’ve posted on Twitter for over two years:

*FL since 2016 Rs have gained NET about 80k
*NC ditto
*PA ditto (varies from 105k down to 74k, now is around 82k net gain since 2016)
*NH Rs net over 7500 in a state Trump lost by 1500.
*Rs made good gains in NM (+10k) but still are at a 90k disadvantage in a small state with very few indies.
*IA and AZ have hit a plateau after big GOP gains. AZ is at GOP +145,000, which only works if Rs vote for the candidate. I’m told by GOP insiders here that MANY Republicans, esp in the northern tier, disliked McSally so much they wrote in Ward. NO ONE, not even Richard Baris, ever thought to look at write in candidates. We also know that as many as 10% of Rs voted for Enema over McSally. McSally has named a new campaign manager, is touring the state with Ward now, and is finally getting out. We’ll see if that’s enough to hold of Mr. Gabby Giffords. But Trump shouldn’t be in trouble in a state where Ducey won the governorship by 10.

*Even NV has seen about a +10k net GOP gain. Only in CO is there no movement (it’s now a D+1 state vs GOP +5 just four years ago-—but at least it stopped there). I think Trump will lose CO but Gardner, esp if he can land the Space Force HQ, will hang on. But it will be close.

Oh, and the Venezuelan refugees in FL? The GOP met them with open arms and most registered Republican after seeing a socialist government in action. Sort of the Cuban experience, part 2.

There is no reg data in TX, GA, MI, but in WI, while there is no actual registration data, a recent study by Baris showed a significant shift to Rs since 2016, as seen in the Hagedorn election. This was ALL GOP turnout, not “Dem suppressed vote” as his polling showed.

I will have to research the Times story. It was my recollection that Bush was ahead in Florida by about 2,000 votes on election night, but when the process concluded 36 days later, the official margin of victory was 537 votes statewide. That’s what led me to believe that Gore had gained votes in the recount process.

30 percent of voters nationwide identify as Republican. That’s below both independents (38 percent) and Democrats (31 percent), but it marks a significant rebound from the GOP's recent low of 22 percent in January 2018.

Wow! An 8 point gain in 18 months.

Not the dead but the homeless camps. That’s why the demorats want the homeless. get the homeless to sign up for absentee ballots and ‘harvest’ them with the election. Just as good as illegal aliens and the Mexican mafia
