Former Vice President Joe Biden jumped to defend Rep. Elijah Cummings, the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee after President Donald Trump criticized the congressman as a “brutal bully” on Saturday.
“Rep Cummings is one of the finest people I’ve ever served with,” Biden wrote on social media. “It is despicable for you to attack him and the people of Baltimore this way. Once again you have proved yourself unfit to hold the office. A President is supposed to lift this nation up. Not tear it down”:
The former vice president’s tweet came shortly after Trump, himself, had taken to social media to lambast Cummings for his treatment of Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan on Friday. Cummings had grilled the secretary for the way his department was looking after migrant children detained for crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.
“You feel like you’re doing a great job, right? Is that what you’re saying?” Cummings asked McAleenan during a committee hearing. When the secretary responded that his department was doing its “level best,” Cummings exploded.

Biden should have waited to tweet AFTER USA Today released it’s most dangerous cities list.
Seems to me that the president was just exposing what was NOT getting done by the Democrat party & Cummings association with Baltimore was just a good topic for the day. What was he supposed to do.....say what a great job Cummings was doing?
Cynical me wonders which of Cummings cronies got the nice fat kick-back for “issuing” those municipal garbage cans. The community next to us just gave two big ol’ red trash containers (one with a blue lid for ‘recycling’) to every resident, I’m wondering if they had to pay for them & who benefited from that program.
The trash collection is speeded up and using a grab arm on the truck, labor cost is diminished.
Yeah, like calling people "a basket of deplorables" and "bitter clingers." THAT is the way to unite folks.
