Time to Take a Bite Out of Beyond Meat?
The Street ^ | Jul 26, 2019 | Katherine Ross

Have you taken a bite out of Beyond Meat (BYND) ?

The company is set to announce earnings on Monday, July 29.

However, after the company reported a partnership with Dunkin' Brands to roll out a meatless sausage, egg and cheese sandwich earlier this week, the stock has been soaring.

In fact, last night, market analyst Charlie Bilello noted that Beyond's market cap was larger than quite a few other companies.

With a market cap of $13.3 billion, Beyond Meat is now worth more than the market value of Shake Shack, Wendy's, Jack in the Box, Red Robin, Habit Burger, Good Times, Ruth's Chris, Buffalo Wild Wing, Fatburger, Ponderosa, Del Frisco's, and Nathan's Famous ... combined.

Real Money reporter Kevin Curran, who filled in for Jim Cramer on TheStreet's Facebook Live show, broke down what it would take for him to invest in Beyond Meat.

"It would take them to make a profit? I mean, this is one of those things where you have to be aware. I mean, I can't say that I was right about beyond meat because I thought it was too high in the low hundreds. And now look at where it is today...And I mean, I would have missed that entire trade, but at the same time, this has such a feeling of euphoria where people say like, this is the only veggie play out there and this is going to be the game-changer. This isn't like a company with a massive moat really. I mean, it's mostly branding. I mean you look at Impossible Foods...Tyson foods (TSN - Get Report) has its own entry point," said Curran.

This fake meat stock has been on fire!

It's up 355% since March!!

I tried it a month ago - I couldn't finish the overpriced "hamburger" - I'll stick to the real thing.

Anybody else tried it?

I tried the hamburger too. Flavor pretty good and suggestive of beef but texture not so good. Way too expensive!

Nope.

Mitloehner said, “When you look at Impossible Burger or Beyond Meat, you will find that they have 21 or 22 highly-processed ingredients. In fact, so processed that you are hard pressed in identifying the difference between those items, versus let’s say, pet food.”

These things are only fooling those who wish to be fooled.

On the taste side of things, they are indeed better than the traditional veggie burger, but if you bite into one of these things and can’t tell its not real meat, you just WANT to believe its real meat.

The investors tossing money at this thing in speculation just remind me of the Webvan investors from 20 years ago.

I had a vegan meatball hero.

I can’t say it was bad.

But a lot of people in the place were FAT!!

Don’t ask how I ended up in there eating one.

It won’t happen again

IMHO investors in this crap are going to get their clocks cleaned.

This all looks and smells like an elaborate advertising campaign.

I do not know anyone in my circle of family and friends that would touch this stuff.
