Yep - the Anglicization of surnames was common back when immigrants actually tried to assimilate. Pronunciations usually didn't change, just spellings.

Kind of reminds me of MLB pitcher Dallas Keuchel. What should be pronounced as something like “Koy-kul” is pronounced by him as “Kie-kul”. If he was going to anglicize it, I would have expected “Kew-kul”, but not “Kie-kul”.
