Georgia Democrat Rep. Hank Johnson accused Republicans at a hearing earlier this month of purposely mispronouncing former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s last name to “besmirch” him.
At a Judiciary Committee hearing on July 12, Hank said that he has heard more and more Republicans calling the former special counsel “[Mew-ler],” instead of “[Muller].”
“I’ve heard more and more Republicans starting to pronounce Director Mueller’s name as ‘[Mew-ler].'” I’ve been hearing that over the past few weeks. Is that some kind of Republican attempt to besmirch Director Mueller?” Johnson asked.

BTW, I’ve heard it pronounced both ways. And the spelling suggests stronly that “mewler” is the correct pronunciation.
But the whole argument is a red herring.
The way it is spelled, “Mew-ler” should be correct. If he wanted to be called “Mull-er” he should have spelled it that way. He has a German spelling but has adopted an incorrect pronunciation.

Hank is nuts. Mueller - is a German name, and the ue is used in place of a u with umlauts. If Mueller doesn’t like his name, he should have changed it to Muller. Lots of people have modified their names when moving to America.
Personally, I think it’s his first name that is the problem. Robert? No, how about Heinrich. That is the name they should use to call him. If Nadless can use an alternative name for Ms Hicks, so should we with Mueller.
