TPS for Venezuela? [Update]
Center for Immigration Studies ^ | 06 March 2019 | Dan Cadman

Posted on 07/22/2019 4:29:43 PM PDT by zeestephen

Update as of July 22, 2019: The House is expected to vote on H.R. 549 soon. The bill is being sponsored by 29 Democrats and three Republicans....Two bills, one each in the House and Senate, have been introduced that would legislatively mandate a grant of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Venezuelans. They are, respectively, H.R. 549, introduced by Rep. Darren Soto (D-Fla.), and S. 636, introduced by Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.).

From the CIS link:

"Each bill has been introduced, needless to say, because Venezuela, despite huge oil and mineral resources, has become an economic basket case under the socialist rule of now-deceased Hugo Chavez and his protegé, bus driver-turned-president Nicolas Maduro."

"It's against this backdrop that Rep. Soto and Senator Menendez have filed their respective bills. There's some irony to two Democrats filing such bills given the strong leftward lurch of their party, which now includes self-avowed socialists."

TPS is a joke, they never leave. There is nothing more permanent than a temporary resident.

TPS? I hope the Venezuelans are better at turning in their reports than the cubicle dwellers at Initech.

Just like those Cubans. Oh wait, the Cubans are loyal Americans precisely because they’ve seen socialism up close and personal. The Venezuelans have legitimate refugee claims unlike the current border jumpers.

Yesterday, several hundred Venezuelans rallied in a park near my apartment in the Seattle suburbs.

Nice people - but, please go back and fix the problems in your own country.

They made a point of prominently displaying an American flag at the entrance to their rally, but all the speakers talked in Spanish.

They have held Sunday rallies in the park, with much smaller groups, on and off, for about six months now.

Venezuela voted for socialism. Freedom of choice. Cuba however, was taken over by an army of Communist. Venezuela will continue to vote for socialism. Especially since the Democrats here in the USA are so much more better at making it happen in the proper Utopian manner. This move by the Dems is to use any and every situation to bring in the future Democrat voters of America and their naturally born children. Demographics on the March.

Re: Just like those Cubans. Oh wait, the Cubans are loyal Americans precisely because they’ve seen socialism up close and personal.

Sorry, that is a very misleading statement.

The First Wave of Cubans in 1960, who were the business owners and professional class of Cuba, have assimilated and prospered in south Florida. Most of them had European ancestry. They vote 60% Republican.

The Second Wave of Cubans started in 1980. Those Cubans are mostly African and Caribbean, and they vote overwhelmingly Democrat.

There is a huge concentration of Second Wave Cubans in the New York City metro area, and they enthusiastically support Senator Menendez.

So, and had the Cubans gone home, or stayed there, maybe they could have fixed their country’s problems. No, everyone has an excuse and sob story to come to America. No, no more. Send them all home. We have 30-60 million illegal aliens today, plus who knows how many given some form of legal status. We see the result whenever we go to Walmart or just about anywhere. English is sadly not the primary language, our country is being trashed and inundated. Overrun.

There is a difference there-Venezuelans actually voted for the socialists who have ruined their country-now they have gotten just what they voted for and they have buyer’s remorse-that is not our problem or responsibility-let them fix their own mess in their own country.

Cubans were forced into Socialism/Communism literally at gunpoint in Fidel Castro’s armed takeover-they had no vote and no choice in the matter-the lucky ones were/are able to get to Florida and other places in the US-there is a reason Cuban Americans are Conservative/Repub voters-they have had socialism forced on them with no chance to vote it up or down.

“Maybe send Democrat socialist along as advisors.”

Disgraced Ex-Senator Al Franken was whining the other day that he’s got nothing to do! Send him! :)

Send Bono, too. And Sean Penn! How about fat Rosie O’Donut and that slob Michael Moore?

Cher and Babs could perform a FREE concert for them to raise cash!

Venezuela Aid!

“Temporary Protected Status” eventually becomes permanent. Once here, it’s almost impossible to get anyone to leave. Let them continue to go to Colombia, Brazil, and other nearby countries.

In my Miami workplace, the First Cuban Wave said, "the Second Cuban Wave only wanted to party".
