Road Trip: Camp Murray, Washington

Camp Murray is located adjacent to Joint Base Lewis–McChord, Washington. It is home to the Washington Army National Guard, Washington State Guard and the Washington Air National Guard.

The Washington National Guard is one of the four elements of the State of Washington's Washington Military Department and a component of the National Guard of the United States. It is headquartered at Camp Murray, Washington and is defined by its state and federal mission.

At the call of the Governor, the Washington National Guard will mobilize and deploy during times of state emergency to augment local jurisdictions and responders in their efforts to protect lives and property. The Washington National Guard is also subject to the call of the President of the United States to serve as part of the total U.S. Military force.

The WAARNG is made up of five Major Subordinate Commands: 81st Brigade Combat Team (headquartered in Seattle), 96th Troop Command (headquartered in Tacoma), 56th Information Operations Brigade (headquartered at Joint Base Lewis-McChord), 66th Theater Aviation Command (headquartered at Joint Base Lewis-McChord), and the 205th Leadership Regiment (headquartered at Camp Murray).

The Washington Air National Guard is made up of two Wings and an Air Defense Sector: 141st Air Refueling Wing (headquartered at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane) 194th Wing (headquartered at Camp Murray) Western Air Defense Sector (headquartered at Joint Base Lewis-McChord)

You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing. Psalm 16:2 “My precious . . .” First portrayed in Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, the image of the emaciated creature Gollum in his maniacal obsession with the “precious ring of power” has become an iconic one today—for greed, obsession, even insanity.

It’s also a troublingly relatable image. In his tormented love-hate relationship with both the ring and with himself, Gollum’s voice echoes the hunger in our own hearts. Whether it’s directed at one thing in particular, or just a vague longing for “more,” we’re sure that once we finally get our own “precious,” we’ll be satisfied. But instead, what we thought would make us whole leaves us feeling even emptier than before.

There’s a better way to live. As David expresses in Psalm 16, when the longings in our hearts threaten to send us on a desperate, futile quest for satisfaction (v. 4), we can remember to turn to God for refuge (v. 1), reminding ourselves that apart from Him we have nothing (v. 2).

And as our eyes stop looking for satisfaction “out there” to gaze instead on God’s beauty (v. 8), we find ourselves finally tasting true contentment—a life of basking in the “joy [of God’s] presence,” walking with Him each moment in “the way of life”—now and forever (v. 11 nlt).

Good weekend, still coolish here thankfully.

Son and I will be out this upcoming weekend for some range fun.

Just hot here. The only time I got out was to go to the dentist and to feed kitties.

COOL video! Those monstrous planes are so impressive. I do wish there’d been some video from the ground as they took off though. That’s what’s fun to watch.

Y’all need to quit hoggin’ the cooler air and share some with us down here. LOL We’ve been sweltering for weeks.
We’ve been a little cooler the past two days due to clouds from the remnants of Barry but we’ll be back in the mid 90s by the end of the week.

The kittehs are doing pretty well at this time, though Moogly had a little setback last week. She appears to be back on track now, thank goodness.

Nope, no rain here from Barry and I don’t see much chance of getting much, if any, the next couple of days. It’s all west of I-65 and just won’t come over here. Maybe we’ll get lucky and get a shower or two but we aren’t holding our breath.
At least it’s been a touch cooler but that won’t last. Gonna be another scorching, steamy weekend.

Blech on having to go to the dentist. Don’t envy ya a bit!

I spent the afternoon with the fella I hope will be our new congresscritter next year. I’ve got the gig as his events coordinator. I just hope I can pull it off and not let him down. To say I’m nervous is an understatement. LOL

I reckon I need to head over to the other house for a bit. Hubby just went back over there to continue what he started earlier today ..... taking out that wall! YAY! There are some things I can do over there so I should scoot over there to do it.
