An avowed white supremacist was sentenced to life plus 419 years on federal hate crime charges Monday for deliberately driving his car into anti-racism protesters during a white nationalist rally in Virginia.
James Alex Fields Jr., 22, received the sentence for killing one person and injuring dozens during the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville on Aug. 12, 2017.
Last month, Fields received a life sentence on 29 federal hate crime charge

I consider it cruel and unusual punishment to impose a sentence of a prime number.
But illegal aliens can kill people and get out in less than 5 years.
Howabout all the rioters that hit his car and caused him to flee? How many hundreds of years are they going to get for their crimes?

Homicide, attempted homicide or murder makes sense. Go for it.
Political incorrectness is a very serious crime.
Many Detroit criminals are back out in 6 or 7 years after murder convictions. Many former juveniles are re-sentenced to “time already served” and released.
And the President Reagan attempted killer ——On July 27, 2016, a federal judge ruled that Hinckley would be allowed to be released from St. Elizabeths on August 5,as he was no longer considered a threat to himself or others.

No problem with him going to prison, but the term seems way out of proportion. From the US Department of Justice, looking at times served in state prisons:
“By offense type, the median time served was 13.4 years for murder, 2.2 years for violent crimes excluding murder, 17 months for drug trafficking, and 10 months for drug possession.”
13.4 years versus...419 sentenced? Politics, anyone? Why not “life”?

The sentence is ridiculous and out-of-proportion. He might as well appeal since he won’t be doing anything else for the next 419 plus years.

Excellent point. Ayers went on a speaking tour that included my college town here. I somehow missed it. Was watching a public library panel discussion on Swedish poetry trends between 1820 and 1850.
