The Departments of Homeland Security and Justice released a new rule Monday under which migrants who enter the United States at the southern border are ineligible for asylum unless they sought protection in one of the countries they traveled through first. The measure, an effort to stem the flow of migrants from Central America into the U.S., is expected to take effect Tuesday.
To remain eligible for safe harbor in the U.S., the rule requires migrants to first seek protection in a country they traverse, such as Mexico, El Salvador, or Guatemala, before arriving at the southern border.
Attorney General William Barr said in a statement the Trump administration is acting within the authority designed by Congress to restrict asylum eligibility... This rule will decrease 'forum shopping by economic migrants' and those who seek 'to exploit our asylum system to obtain entry to the United States'.

Yes,...but the refugees in europe ignored it until they had facilities and enforcement in place which forced the refugees to find alternate routes.
There are 9 places in Mexico where you can apply for asylum. The US embassy and 8 US consulates.
Every sh!th0le country in Central America borders on at least one ocean. If the new asylum regulation is not struck down by some lefty district court judge in Hawaii, then expect an increase in illegal aliens who invade our country by sea, directly from their country of origin.
that’s right....
It time to start ignore federal judges nationwide injunctions and force that to the supreme court. Further several appeals courts need to be disbanded and judges impeached - this lifetime appointment crap is getting abused.
SECURE THE DAMN BORDER....use the military with ROEs to shoot on sight
Agree the cartels are looking good to them too.
For us southerners the Y stands for Y’all
Still Not Tired Of Winnin Y’all
IIRC, this rule has always been there....just never enforced.
Likely....and a hay day for traffickers. They did that during obanas crack down on illegals.
YET?
The countries of Europe ignored the law, until illegal immigration broke their economy and social/civil standards. The US has ignored it for years. . . With this new rule the US should be sending all asylum seekers from outside Mexico back to Mexico.
“Judge overrules in ....3,2,1”
It’s a congressional thing. Judge cannot overrule it. It will get sent back to congress for them to figure it out.
Why bother if it won’t be enforced?
Then there’s SNOWY.
Doesnt this language already exist in our immigration laws?
An activist judge will try to stop it but ultimately, its Congress job to clarify or change.
Trump should just ignore any injunction.
I thought this was always the rule and Mexico refused to enforce it. If it’s already law, how will the courts stop it?
Mexico and the Central American countries will just tell them, “Denied. Now you can apply to the U.S. Go!”
Sooner or later this invasion will be stopped, and invaders deported. Already the flood is diminished due to MX efforts.
