On Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives approved an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that would allow transgender individuals who meet all other physical, educational, and mental health standards to serve in the U.S. military.
The amendment passed 242-187, with 10 Republicans voting with Democrats in support of transgender military service.
The amendment, introduced by U.S. Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.), is modeled after former President Harry Trumans 1948 order that racially integrated the military.
It incorporated much of the language from Trumans order including that there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to personal characteristics while adding sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation to the list of protected classes.
The vote in favor of the amendment is an act of direct defiance against the Trump administration, which has fought for the past two years to limit transgender participation in the military.
Under the so-called Mattis Plan, named after former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, transgender individuals may only enlist or serve in the U.S. military if they have not been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and remain in (and present according to grooming standards for) their assigned sex at birth.

Will be vetoed.
The congressional black caucus shouldve blocked this on principle alone.
That they equate voluntary eunuchs with actual racism is disgusting.
Why limit it to gender identity? Why can’t people who identify as cats and dragons and get tats and implants to complete the look play, too?
How many transgenders does it take to lose a war? How stupid are the leaders? Or are they traitors?
Ten Republicans voted with all Democrats in support of the bill: Republican Reps. Susan Brooks (Ind.), Brian Fitzpatrick (Pa.), Trey Hollingsworth (Ind.), Will Hurd (Texas), John Katko (N.Y.), Tom Reed (N.Y.), Elise Stefanik (N.Y.), Steve Stivers (Ohio), Fred Upton (Mich.) and Greg Walden (Ore.).
If there is a mental health standard , they already failed!!!
Hard to veto the defense bill. It must be defeated in the Senate.
Just a scam to gobble up resources and receive free medical care during the transition. The military should not be a breeding ground for social experiments. The militaries job is protecting the interests of the nation and secure the sovereignty of the nation. OR rates will plummet when half of the platoon is in mental counseling or medical transition thereby robbing resources desperately needed for the troops fitness for fighting. Case in point is females who join for the benefits but seem to get pregnant when a looming deployment arises. Seen that time and time again. On the other hand I have witnessed males claim family hardship or create an accident to avoid deployments. Those who do not move out when orders come down should be discharged. No time for sissies.
The 10 Rep votes had no bearing on the outcome. Look at the numbers and you will see.
There is no such thing as transgender.
No doctor could make me ovulate.
No doctor could make Hillary Clinton into a sperm donor.
Get ready to fund pink lace thongs for uniform of the day.
U.S. House of Representatives approves the Cringe Bill
Yep, put guns, grenades and bombs in the hands of mentally unstable people, put them in close quarters and high stress situations with men and women who have little time or patience with political correctness. What could go wrong? Other than hundreds of Major Hassans stalking our bases.
The House of Pelosi panders again.
No.
It won’t get past the Senate.
“There is no such thing as transgender.”
It is the world of make-believe - child’s play.
These Republicans may be at risk in their districts and were throw away votes on this anyway. The Senate will not pass it.
Leftists love to use the term “social construct.” If anything is a social construct, certainly “transgender” is.
