Rick Perry: Now that Ross Perot is gone, I can tell this story
Dallas News ^ | 7/12/19 | Rick Perry

Posted on 07/13/2019 5:57:41 AM PDT by texas_mrs

This week, the nation remembers Ross Perot for his success in business, his two independent White House bids and his no-nonsense, straight Texas talk. His love of country, larger-than-life personality and generosity are all part of his legacy that will live on. But there is another little-known part of the life of Ross Perot that should be told now that he is gone. He was a tireless, but private, supporter of our wounded veterans. During my time as governor of this great state, I had the honor and privilege of knowing countless warriors who stepped forward to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan and returned home with horrific wounds of war. U.S. Army Cpl. Alan Babin Jr. is one such hero. While serving in Iraq in 2003 as a medic in the 82nd Airborne, Alan was shot in the abdomen while tending to a fallen comrade. While Alan survived his injury, he faced a long and difficult road to recovery, complicated by the onset of meningitis and a stroke-induced coma that left him confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. On the one-year anniversary of his wounding, I joined Alan and his family for a small gathering. He was still in very bad shape, neurologically and physically incapacitated. When I asked his mother, Rosie, what I could do to help, she said she was eager to get him out of the hospital and back home, but struggling with the prospect of transporting Alan to his many medical visits.

re: “Iirc Perot made most of his fortune through government contracts for computer support to agencies like Social Security.”

I’m still proud to say that I voted for Ross, after I discovered what a snake George Bush was.

This comes as no surprise to followers of Perot from way back.

1. Great story. Loved the blurb about Gary Sinise
2. I loved Ross Perot. Voted for him twice. Even so, I’m still confused with him weirding out during his first run.
3. If it weren’t for the weirding out I’m pretty darn sure Ross Perot was going to win.
4. Has anybody ever gotten to the bottom of this incident? Did Ross scuttle his own campaign? What spooked the Billionaire who could have easily hired a mercenary army for protection?

Agree. Think of how Goldwater broke the ground that Reagan followed later. Trump learned from Perot’s failed bids.

The more I learn about Perot, the more I like him.

The more I learn about the Bushes, the less I like them.

Read it for what it is.

Jeb Bush basically wrote that he (and his Bush family) wished PDJT was dead July 4th, remember?)...

This is meant to keep the Bush family off balance. Perot cost Bush Sr a second term.

Bush got us Clinton. And Souter, etc., etc.

History shows us that on the big issues of our time like borders and trade Bush and Clinton were in near total agreement.

As I recall, Perot technically did not “drop out” of the 1992 race; he had not formally declared his candidacy. Then he said he would not run; then said he would run. Have we heard that before.

“He made all of his fortune by creating a computer system that could bill Medicare. Every penny.”

Fake news.

The treatment he got was not something the military could provide at the time. The 0-6 was able to come back on active duty for years but did succumb to his disease years later. Perot bought him years. Personally, I didn’t care much for the guy as he was a serious racist.
