Denouncing President Donald Trump as an affront to American values, Democratic candidate Joe Biden vowed Thursday that if elected he would hold a summit aimed at halting a backslide in global democracy.
The former vice president, who leads early polls for the Democratic nomination to challenge Trump in next year's election, said his foreign policy would be "based on clear goals driven by sound strategies, not by Twitter tantrums."
"The world sees Trump for what he is: insincere, ill-informed and impulsive -- and sometimes corrupt, dangerously incompetent and incapable, in my view, of world leadership and leadership at home," Biden said in a speech on foreign policy in New York.
Biden chastised Trump for downplaying human rights and voiced alarm at the "rapid advance of authoritarianism, nationalism and illiberal tendencies around the world" even among US allies, naming Hungary, the Philippines and Turkey.
He said he would hold a summit in the United States within one year of taking office that would recommit to democratic values and involve civil society.
"Leaders who attend must come prepared to cooperate and make concrete commitments to take on corruption and advance human rights in their own nations," he said.
"We have to be honest about our friends that are falling short and forge a common agenda to address the greatest threats to our shared values," he said.
Biden said he would also convene a separate summit on climate change within 100 days of taking office where the United States would press other major carbon emitters to join it in making "more ambitious national pledges."

I don’t know if anybody has noticed (and I haven’t saved the links) - but some Eurocrats have been going on and on about the need to “involve NATO” to protect “our common values” in countries falling prey to “nationalism” and “illiberal ideas”.
I’m quite sure we have senior commanders who would just LOVE to join with their “NATO partners” to “protect our common values” - of which American nationalism and protecting our borders isn’t one.
I can handle things! I'm smart!
Not like everybody says...like dumb
I'm smart and I want respect!
JULY 2017...

President Trump called Russia a destabilizing influence in Europe and the Middle East, and urged it to join the community of responsible nations, in his strongest remarks yet against the regime of Vladimir Putin, whom he is scheduled to meet Friday in Hamburg for the first time.
His remarks in Warsaws Krasinski Square, which marks the 1944 Warsaw uprising against the Nazis, came after the U.S. agreed to sell Patriot missiles to Poland. The president also used the opportunity to reiterate the NATO commitment to mutual defense, a declaration he did not make during the NATO summit in May, prompting consternation among U.S. allies wary of Russias ambitions.
To those who would criticize our tough stance, I would point out that the United States has demonstratednot merely with its words but with its actionsthat we stand firmly behind Article 5, the mutual-defense commitment, Trump said Thursday. Words are easy, but actions are what matters. And for its own protection, Europe, and you know this, everybody knows this, everybody has to know this, Europe must do more.
Trump has repeatedly said NATO members must spend more on defensea position in line with past U.S. administrations. But he has been criticized because he appeared to suggest U.S. commitment to mutual defense was predicated on its allies defense spending. ...

LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said NATO was obsolete because it had not defended against terror attacks, but that the military alliance was still very important to him, The Times of London reported.
I took such heat, when I said NATO was obsolete, Trump told the newspaper in an interview. Its obsolete because it wasnt taking care of terror. I took a lot of heat for two days. And then they started saying Trump is right.
Trump added that many NATO members were not paying their fair share for U.S. protection.
A lot of these countries arent paying what theyre supposed to be paying, which I think is very unfair to the United States, Trump said. With that being said, NATO is very important to me. Theres five countries that are paying what theyre supposed to. Five. Its not much.

"President Trump has been very clear," Stoltenberg told fill-in host John Roberts.
"He is committed to NATO. He stated that clearly just a few days ago and also at the NATO summit in July.
But at the same time, he has clearly stated that NATO allies need to invest more. And therefore at the summit in July last year, we agreed to do more to step up -- and now we see the results."
In all, Stolenberg continued, "by the end of next year, NATO allies will add hundred 100 billion extra US dollars toward defense. So we see some real money and some real results. And we see that the clear message from President Donald Trump is having an impact."
In July 2018, NATO leaders pledged their unwavering commitment to boost defense spending, following stern words from the president. The U.S. and European allies signed a declaration stating they were committed to improving the balance of sharing the costs and responsibilities of alliance membership.

——Eurocrats ——
You have succinctly expressed a concept I have been hammering for a very long time.
That is, incompetence impliedAmerican liberal, progressive democrats are intellectually deficient. This group has no original thought. The root of every program, idea, scam they propose lies in Europe of the UK. All they do or say comes from across the Atlantic. There is no, zero, nada original or primart thought not originating abroad.
I would hope that since you coined the term Eurocrats that you will build on that tterm and the intellectual incompetence implied
to vote in a federal election, you must be a citizen
Amen
FU Joe Biden CK and Globalist Socialism
Meanwhile the George-Soros supported DEMOCRATS were the ones who were actually colluding with the Russians, both during the 2016 election AND prior, during the Obama-Biden-Hillary years, where they handed Putin everything he could hope for in such critically important areas as missile defense, the New Start nuke treaty, the Putin-loving Iran deal, Obama-Hillary Uranium-One deal! And they did all these things as Obama practically decapitated OUR military. Something to think about, eh?

No new We Are The World crap.
Translation: Biden pledges Global Totalitarian Government (preferably, Worldwide Islamic Supremacy)
What's in it for the "Gib Me Dats?"
(the base of the Democrat party)
Well, he didn't do a very good job of it.
Anyway, long as I (hopefully) got my point across about the George Soros-supported Democrats being the ones who actually colluded with the Russians (in many ways, for a long period of time), I'm satisfied, assuming even some of the really blind among us will (finally) get and understand what has been going on over the past decade or so. ie, the BS "tough talk" on Russia from the phony democrats, as they were actually helping the Russians in so many significant ways. Russians are clearly pissed that their gal Hillary lost the election, as they (Putin and Co) have big plans ahead for Eastern Europe.
More globalism from his Chinese masters.
The total disappointment, paul ryan, has proven his idiocy/worthlessness in his book. He complains Our President doesn’t understand government. Perhaps that’s exactly why he continues to be so effective!
Just curious if you are aware that the ChiComs have never had a closer military and economic alliance with the Russians than they do now. In fact, they've been staging massive annual joint war games for nearly 15 years.
When they come at us, it will probably be together.
“Biden chastised Trump for downplaying human rights ...”
President Trump stands for Americans’ rights. Americans’s rights ARE human rights.
