President Donald Trump announced Thursday he’ll be issuing an executive order directing federal agencies to provide the Commerce Department with records pertaining to “the number of citizens and noncitizens in our country.” Speaking to reporters from the White House Rose Garden, Trump said his administration is “not backing down on our effort to determine the citizenship status of the United States population.” While Attorney General William Barr said the citizenship question would not be included on the 2020 census, Trump detailed what his administration will do instead.
“I am hereby ordering every department and agency in the federal government to provide the Department of Commerce with all requested records regarding the number of citizens and noncitizens in our country,” Trump said, as ABC News reported. “They must furnish all legally accessible records in their possession immediately. We will utilize these vast federal databases to gain a full, complete, and accurate count of the noncitizen population.”
I bet it’s north of 50 million.
Of course we all know if Trump announced he was going to use the bathroom tonight, the ‘rats would find a judge to rule against it.

The Dems could care less about this “curveball”. They want non-citizens as part of the census...period. That’s what boosts their power in the House and Electoral College.
Doesn't ICE at least keep track of the names of those who have been "caught and released" into the general population?
If this info can't be used to determine House seats, then this news is a big nothing.

I’m sure they have that ... but I was wondering whether they have a database of a some of the known legacy illegal aliens that have been here for years — a subset of the the 11M, 30M or whatever number it is.
True. But the same problem would exist even if they got the citizenship question on the census. They have been apportioning by raw population for a long time. Merely adding the question would not have changed that. In the end, this final strategy by Trump may prove more effective because the numbers will be objective, scientific, and not obfuscated by lies, fraud or gimmicks.

I respectfully disagree. Trump loses everytime he goes to toe with Dems. This executive order is nonsense theater to deflect from his caving on the census.
Anyone can write anything on census piece of paper. Fraud reigns supreme there. It’s no secret. As opposed to the hard data which can be used to support all types of actions. In addition, the data could be a real eyeopener for those who still cling to the BS 12 million number they’ve been parading around for decades.
When is that wretched RBG going to bite it?!
Example:
1. Where were you born?
2. Were you or are you to be naturalized?
3. Are you a legal immigrant?

Ascertaining the citizenship status goes into the question of calculating the APPORTIONMENT POPULATION. That's the official term.
Only citizens are entitled to representation in Congress.
The Apportion Population determines the number of seats allocated to each state.
The Constitution does not mandate how the Apportionment Population is to be formulated for calculation.
In effect POTUS is saying that the Apportionment Population will be estimated from known federal records and we can be assured those records will not allow illegals to be included in that apportionment calculation.
If Pelosi and he Democrats try to stop Commerce from developing estimation algorithms based on federal records, she will need to pass a law which she will never be able to do.
However, this estimation curve ball must not set a precedent. After the 2020 elections, relying on the GOP to take back the House and hold the Senate, there must be a law authorizing the citizenship question just to clarify so that the shenanigans of Justice Roberts and the Democrats cannot again try to skew the Apportionment Population to illegal populations to further their hold on power.
Trump failed at the census.
It was a simple task. He failed. Deep State won.
Now communist CA, NY & IL have over representation.
The remaining States are screwed.

Perhaps the plan is to send census forms to only US citizens, and only US citizens will be counted.
It is doable. Let's see how this plays out.

It is not settled law that non-citizens can’t be included in congressional apportionment. I think Barr mentioned in his comments today that issue is currently in the system....somewhere.

It there are 400 million counted, and federal records allow an estimation of 360 million citizens, 10 million legal immigrants and Visa holders, and the remaining 30 million as illegal or undocumented, …

The Apportionment Population is certified to be 360 million …
