Why would he work for a client to help get these records unsealed if they contained evidence of wrongdoing on his part?

So he could bury that evidence.

Nothing beats being an insider when it comes to crimes and cover ups.

Hand on the wheel. He may have concluded it would happen anyway. This way he may have some control over outcome. He is a lawyer, not a normal person.
