I’m a big fan of the local HD’s rental department. Staff is very helpful and just plain nice. Rental equipment is top-notch. Always the first place I start.

Might be regional. Lowes dumped the Lowes’t campaign and stopped price matching. I have a LAR (Lowes AR) card that gives me a 5% discount on everything, but I have made some HD purchases because HD was cheaper even WITH the extra 5% off at Lowes. I have also found that for foo foo bs, Lowes always has plenty of stock, but for specific types of pipe fittings, electrical connections, types of lumber … you know, real project components, Lowes is usually either out of stock or does not have enough of what I need.
