Former governor of Rio paid $2m bribe to win 2016 Olympics — defeating Chicago’s bid in the process

The former governor said he bought the votes for Rio to get to "the second stage of the vote" and that "no votes were bought after that."

Rio was chosen over Chicago, Tokyo and Madrid to host the 2016 Games. Chicago’s bid, considered by most a strong one, was the first to be eliminated, despite the presence of then-U.S. President Barack Obama at the IOC meeting in Copenhagen.

The Chi-congo olympics would have been fun to watch. From a safe distance.

I remember the Drudge headline,”The Ego Has Landed”.

I was working in Chicago at the time. I LMAO when Chicago was eliminated in the first round. All those lucrative contracts were gone. Mayor for life little Richie Daley retired. All those signs, “We support the bid and so can you” were worthless.

I certainly didn’t complain. I was on the phone with a friend when I first got the news that Chicago was out...we were cheering.

Wasn’t there at least one “suicide” of questionable note within Daley’s regime in the wake of the Olympic loss?

This is still one of my favorite moments of his Presidency as he really thought they had it in the bag based on nothing more than “hometown of Obama”

Meanwhile, all these globalist grifters on the IOC were lining their pockets the old fashioned “Chicago way” and could care less about the media messiah.

It has to make you laugh.

The Olympics are so fraught with politics and corruption, the point of them has been entirely lost.

If I were mayor of a worthy city, the Olympic Committee would have to pay the city for the privilege of holding the event there. The thought of greasing palms for all that trouble and drama and resulting debt is something I’ll never understand.

But Valarie Jarret would have done quite well, so there’s that.

Yes, the headline is remembered. This was at the time Drudge was on top of the world (before he fell from grace).
That particular line will remain in memory for a v.e.r.y. long time!
