Big one just hit.
Maybe a bunch of illegal Mexicans will go home, they hate earthquakes.
Whereabouts are you? Relative of mine in Torrance said they felt a rolling motion
Im in the west side Ive felt 3
My sister felt it big time in Rancho Cucamonga. She thought her husband was rocking her car.
I’m on the other side of the Date Line.
Ask me tomorrow
Felt nothing in Texas
But dont call me Shirley
It’s gonna be a long night. They must have gotten hammered in Ridgecrest. The Kern canyon road 178 is closed due to boulders. I was going to L.A. tomorrow but I’m staying home just in case.
“Are there some big California state correctional institutions out there?”
Boron, off Highway 395, south of Ridgecrest closed down in 2000. Minimum Security, white color type stuff. We take that route when we vacation in Mammouth or Lake Tahoe. I remember back in the day road signs in that area “don’t pick up Hitchhikers” lol.

Yeah, too bad. 7 is big. Some people’s houses will be wrecked.
I could listen to this lady at the news conference all night. You can tell she is passionate about her job.

Btw. This fault line leads to the San Andreas and with the snow melt pray for Gods protection.”

Prayers UP !!!
Not a Twitch from anything,
I’m thinking Wild Fires are
Our specialty so maybe we get a break.
The Richter Scale is logarithmic, meaning it goes up by levels of ten, so a magnitude 10 earthquake is 10 times larger than a magnitude 9.
***********************************************************************
Yes, it is logarithmic. But, as far as energy released goes, each whole number increase in the Richter Scale yields about 32 times the energy released as would the next lower Whole number.

NW trend..

I think the fault it was on runs northwest as do most / a lot of faults in CA.
I like Lucy Jones she loves quakes its her passion..better than hearing Kate Hutton remember her
Everything hanging from walls and ceiling (guitars, doors, ceiling fans, shades, etc.)was swaying bigly.
Youre right, the swaying stuff (at least initially) was staying still while the house moved around it. Hope nothing was damaged.
West side L.A. ?
Relative of mine that lives south of LAX said they felt a gentle rolling; soil type must make a difference...
That means there could be quite a few people trapped up near Lake Isabella, and a handful of other towns and camping sites.
Actually, 178 could potentially be broken up pretty good going up toward the High Sierra.
Yesterdays 6.4 triggered aftershocks on two different and intercepting fault zones. Yesterdays activity initially fell along faults trending to the southwest towards ridgecrest. Aftershocks also started towards the northwest as well, though not as well defined. It is along this northwest fault trend that this 7.1 hit. Immediately afterwards a swarm of 3s and 4s started rocking even further to the nw (usgs calls them near little lake)
