The Supreme Court on Thursday blocked, for now, the Trump administration's plan to include a question on the 2020 census that inquires about a persons citizenship status.

What? There were multiple opinions and the Court’s conservatives did not agree with Roberts on everything.
So it depends on the definition of the word “population”. Interesting.

Ok assuming its true.
If he was breaking Irish law other then bad manners where is he breaking American law?
*********
I agree with your sentiment ... Where is the “controlling legal interest” ,, Ireland can’t do sh*t ...
My question is what enforcement mechanism does the SC have? I say put the question in no matter what they order or command... sooner or later the executive needs to attack the Judiciaries power grab.
There’s not a good reason, on many levels, to know if someone in our country is a citizen or not?
Yes
Ireland has very strict laws on who can adopt:
You must be ordinarily resident in Ireland and must have resided in Ireland for at least one year before the date of the making of the Adoption Order.
So much for Trump’s judicial picks.
That one is rather a stretch and some of us require more substantial evidence than a statement like who he shared rent payments with.
By design the US Constitution apportions congressional representation by population.
*******
“permanent” population.. not transient... people illegally in any state are not by definition permanent... if you count them then Florida with 100MM visitors a year when you combine MIA/TPA/MCO/SFB international airport traffic and assuming a 2 week visit has a “permanent” transient population averaging 2-3MM at any one time ... GIVE ME THE EXTRA REPS IN CONGRESS... (just going by the rules!)
Like how many flush toilets I have in my home? Or how long is my daily commute to work?
Its time for the Supreme Court to bring their army to back up their decision!

How many divisions does Herr Roberts have?
To be more specific than my post at 121, Thomas authored an opinion concurring in part and dissenting in part, joined by Kavanaugh and Gorsuch. And Alito authored his own concurring/dissenting opinion. The Court’s conservatives did not agree with Roberts on several key parts and would not have “blocked” it in any sense, so while you are correct that there is still a chance of the question being on the census, Roberts did indeed pull a minor Judas.
Everyone on this platform should remember one thing every time you hear the saying “3 co equal branches of Government” is BS, the judicial is the least powerful by design, look it up and the reason for it!!
Will it be done in time for the 2020 census?
(Before they are sent out, that is?)
>>Why do we even have a country? Whats the point?<<
Do you actually think we are a country anymore? We have become a geographical entity, without borders. Laws are not being enforced. Our “representative government” is determined to destroy our history and our culture. They are dictators, not representatives.
Sadly, we are responsible for we have done nothing to stop the destruction. What will it take to throw off this damned dictatorship and oust them?
If the citizenship question is not on the census, I will not comply.
FIGHT BACK!
Non-citizens have no representation, being resident on sufferance, they are not members of the body politic.
Congress members are elected to rule as our representatives with power delegated to them by the sovereign people.
Why wait until it's too late? Why not engage action against the deep state coup? Why not declared DoJ and State to be engaged in mutiny? Why not recognize that NY & CA are acting in insurrection?
The answer to these questions is easy to ID: Trump isn't "the guy". Never was, never will be. He saw an opportunity to play to the negotiation stage of his base. (After denial, and before anger comes negotiation; as in, come on, we can fix this if we really try.)
So now, as the Romans before us, we watch as history slowly unfolds. Let's assume for argument's sake that the census question is included. How exactly does that resolve the demographic poison pill? The trend line has been locked in now for over 50 years. The only issue is the cross-over point.
Hard expulsions and forced deportations are the answer, but that's never gonna happen. So, join the smart set and figure out how to play the angle. It may be distasteful to join the GOPe, but if the present situation was created before most were born, then why align with a clown selling snake oil, and enjoy yourself a bit?
Trump’s judicial picks were solid here. Apparently, FOX News misleadingly reported that this decision was unanimous. (I don’t watch FOX, but I’m basing it on what others here said.) In fact, only parts of it were unanimous and the Court’s conservatives were not responsible for the parts that meant the question might not be on the census. Blame Dubya’s Roberts and the libs for that. Kavanaugh and Gorsuch were perfectly on the side of the good guys both in this case and the major partisan gerrymandering decision.
