Hey, there! Just been really, really busy.

My life has changed a good deal - lost my dear husband to leukemia in 2015, sold our old huge barrack of a suburban house and moved to the country, new job, new dogs . . . and all the dog people keep up with each other on FakeBook . . . so against my better judgment I'm over there some.

I'd like to hear A.G. Barr play "The Black Bear Hornpipe". You can look it up. It was the march past of my father's old regiment, and it is a bit tricky.

Prince Charles is visiting an Edinburgh hospital. He enters a ward full of patients with no obvious sign of injury or illness and greets one. The patient replies:

“Fair fa your honest sonsie face, Great chieftain o the puddin race, Aboon them a ye take yer place, Painch, tripe or thairm, As langs my airm.”

HRH is confused, so he just smiles and moves on to the next patient.

The patient responds:
“Some hae meat an canna eat, And some wad eat that want it, But we hae meat an we can eat, So let the Lord be thankit.”

Even more confused, the Prince moves on to the next patient, who immediately begins to chant:
“Wee sleekit, cowerin, timrous beasty, O the panic in thy breasty, Thou needna start awa sae hastie, Wi bickering brattle.”

Now seriously troubled, Charles turns to the accompanying doctor and asks, “Is this a psychiatric ward?”

“No,” replies the doctor, “This is the serious Burns unit.”

Oh, horse feathers.

Because they use multiple split reeds against a double reed (like what you might see in an oboe), they are *difficult* to tune properly. But like anything else there's a trick to it, and once you get the knack it goes o.k.

My husband had perfect pitch, so he always let me know when one of the drones was a bit "off".

“Sounds like the straight line to a joke. I don’t know. How? “

I believe that is the entire joke, implying that a bagpipe would sound awful no matter the state of tuning. In other words how would you ever know if it were in tune or not?

How does he know if his bagpipes need tuning?

When he blows into the chanter and the pipes cough up a hairball.

I'm so sorry for your loss, AAM. That will quiet anyone down for quite awhile. Glad to hear you are well into the process of repositioning. Hug those doggies for me!

I know of the Atlanta Pipe Band. I was listening to a UT Vols football game on radio many years ago and part of the halftime performance was the APB playing Amazing Grace and then the Pride of the Southland Band joining in on the second verse. You could tell by the sound of our radio announcers’ voice (John Ward) that he thoroughly enjoyed it. It did send chills.

As it turns out, I started lessons earlier this year with an instructor from the Knoxville Pipes and Drums. I’m usually a stringed instrument and keyboard player so it is definitely a change from what I’m used to, but its interesting.

What a fantastic movie that was......good acting, good directing and good comedy....comedy being a thing of the past. Didn’t hear people raising a ruckus about using the “N” word, Brooks was an equal opportunity offender in the nicest way and having Richard Pryor’s co-writing no wonder it was a riot.

Whenever Jerrold Waddler starts grilling AG Barr, the latter should whip out the pipes and just skirl away.
