I know of the Atlanta Pipe Band. I was listening to a UT Vols football game on radio many years ago and part of the halftime performance was the APB playing Amazing Grace and then the Pride of the Southland Band joining in on the second verse. You could tell by the sound of our radio announcers’ voice (John Ward) that he thoroughly enjoyed it. It did send chills.

As it turns out, I started lessons earlier this year with an instructor from the Knoxville Pipes and Drums. I’m usually a stringed instrument and keyboard player so it is definitely a change from what I’m used to, but its interesting.

Stick with it through the practice chanter stage. I'm a keyboard player mostly now (harpsichord) who can play a little bluegrass guitar, it's a whole different part of your brain.

I do wish though that pipe bands would quit pandering to the masses by playing non-pipe tunes like AG, the Star Wars theme, and the Marine Corps Hymn. There are many beautiful pipe tunes that nobody ever hears because they are playing that "stuff".
