Private First Class William Bernard Baugh (July 7, 1930 – November 29, 1950) was a United States marine who, at age 20, received the Medal of Honor in Korea for sacrificing his life to save his Marine comrades. The nation’s highest decoration for valor was presented to the young Marine for extraordinary heroism on November 29, 1950, between Koto-ri and Hagaru-ri, when he protected the members of his squadron from a grenade by smothering it with his body.

Private First Class Baugh was the 15th Marine to receive the Medal of Honor for heroism during the Korean War. Born July 7, 1930, in McKinney, Kentucky, William Bernard Baugh was employed by Harrison Shoe Corporation before his enlistment in the Marine Corps on January 23, 1948, at the age of 17. He attended public schools in Butler County, Ohio.

Following recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina, PFC Baugh was stationed at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and after being transferred to the 1st Marine Division in Korea, took part in the Inchon landing, the capture of Seoul, and the Wonsan, Hungnam, and Chosin Reservoir campaigns. His death occurred in the Chosin area.

In addition to the Medal of Honor, PFC Baugh posthumously received the Purple Heart Medal. He previously held the Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Occupation Service Medal with Europe Clasp, Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, and the United Nations Service Medal.

The President of the United States in the name of The Congress takes pride in presenting the MEDAL OF HONOR posthumously to

PRIVATE FIRST CLASS WILLIAM B. BAUGH
UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS

for service as set forth in the following CITATION:

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a member of an Anti-Tank Assault Squad attached to Company G, Third Battalion, First Marines, First Marine Division (Reinforced), during a nighttime enemy attack against a motorized column en route from Koto-Ri to Hagaru-ri, Korea, on November 29, 1950. Acting instantly when a hostile grenade landed in his truck as he and his squad prepared to alight and assist in the repulse of an enemy force delivering intense automatic-weapons and grenade fire from deeply entrenched and well-concealed roadside positions, Private First Class Baugh quickly shouted a warning to the other men in the vehicle and, unmindful of his own personal safety, hurled himself upon the deadly missile, thereby saving his comrades from serious injury or possible death. Sustaining severe wounds from which he died a short time afterward, Private First Class Baugh, by his superb courage and valiant spirit of self-sacrifice, upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.

Howdy, radu! How did your weekend go?

Mine was hot and very dry. Bah! :)

Howdy, PRO.

Have you had a good weekend? Did summer come in flamin’ hot like it’s done in so many parts of the country? We’re roasting here, in between getting hammered by storms.
I’m keeping a close eye on another round moving in tonight, hoping for no strong wind this time. Hubby just got the tree debris from Friday night cleaned up.

Howdy, LUV.

Been hot but not so dry here. The storm systems just won’t stop rollin’ through. Keeping an eye on one closing in on us now, hoping it’ll fizzle out.

Other than that, it’s been good. Had a jammin’ day at the museum yesterday and am still recuperating. LOL

Just got home a little while ago from “window shopping” at my favorite fireworks tent, looking at all the goodies they have this year. It’s going to be hard to decide what I want.

AJ just brought up one of the box fans for his room.

I spent some time sitting on the deck this morning (now I have multiple mosquito bites), and he did after he got home from work. He is supposed to leave for home Tuesday evening. They think the job may finally start the latter half of July. He’s hoping for 3+ weeks at home...AND SAILING!!!

Having your own land to use for fireworks makes it more fun! I don’t bother any more. No kids and the heat is just too much for staying out for long. The public ones are downtown and it’s a mess trying to park.

I hope the storms stop soon. How is the corn doing now that it’s tassling? I guess it’s getting lots of ears on it now?

AJ’s going to need that fan blowing on high this week with those temps. You too. Ugh!

He needs to be incommunicado as soon as he gets to GA and just TAKE the whole three weeks. LOL I hope they have a fabulous time out on the boat. They’ve waited an awfully long time for this.

Hiya radu!

No, actually here we've had a mild summer so far, mid '70's today and recently although it's bound to warm up, but not this week.

I had a very relaxing weekend, didn't do much at all.

Who needs kids around to shoot fireworks? LOL! I wouldn’t want kids around the stuff I get any way because I get BIG goodies.

This area sounds like a war zone when the 4th of July rolls around. People all over the place shoot fireworks. I could hear some tonight while I was at the fireworks tent.
The night of the 4th, I shoot mine off then go across the road to a vacant house on a hill. From there I can see all around and watch fireworks going off across the county. I can even see the fireworks show at Monteagle, where the museum is, though it’s distant.

It looks like we got lucky tonight, at least for now. The storm line I’ve been watching has fizzled out on the southern end BUT there are more to the west to watch out for now. We could use some rain for the corn but we don’t need more wind.

The corn’s doing great. All stalks have pretty little ears now. Several leaves got mussed up a little by the wind Friday night but no stalks were knocked over.

Ooooo, lucky you with those mild temps! I reckon your heat is down here because we’re roasting. LOL

A didn’t-do-much-at-all weekend sounds mighty nice. Last weekend was pretty active so it probably felt good to kick back.

We were slammed at the museum yesterday so today was pretty much couldn’t-do-much-at-all. LOL

UGH! Pine pollen is awful! I feel for ya!
We’ve already been through it down here so I sympathize.

BTW, thanks for the links to the museum's TV show coverage, quite a huge collection of military history.

Very cool that you can be a part of it!

Thanks!
It was so windy today, it blew all over everything!
I had to use my wipers to get the danged stuff off the windshield!
LOL

Ah, good. I’m glad you saw the links and enjoyed seeing some of the cool, unique pieces in the museum.

That was shot a year ago and it looks so empty compared to now. A lot more has been added since then.

It’s very fun to be involved with it and get to watch it grow. I don’t even dread waking up at the crack of dawn on Saturdays. LOL

We’re getting a lot of repeat visitors, which is nice. They’re enjoying watching it grow too.

Ugh! Been there, too, with using the wipers to get the pollen off the windshield. Makes ya just want to stay in the house when it’s that bad, doesn’t it?
