Lawyers for the man convicted for ramming a crowd of protesters with his car in Charlottesville, Va., injuring dozens and killing activist Heather Heyer, asked for "mercy" for their client in a memo, arguing that he should not spend the rest of his life in prison.
The Associated Press reported Saturday that lawyers for 22-year-old James Alex Fields Jr. argued that Fields' age and history of mental illness, along with a traumatic childhood, should factor into a court's decision that they hoped would amount to less than a life sentence.
“No amount of punishment imposed on James can repair the damage he caused to dozens of innocent people. But this Court should find that retribution has limits,” the attorneys reportedly wrote.

I saw the full video. He could have turned left or right and not go down the alley at all. He deserves the full sentence of what he might get.

I feel sorry for everyone involved. The driver of the car is a not too bright doofus. I don’t believe he wanted this to happen. There are dozens of different videos of that street from different perspectives. One of them shows an antifa type running into the street and slamming the back of his car with a baseball bat. It was in the following moment he accelerated and hit persons standing in the street. I believe he panicked after his car was struck with a baseball bat.
You got it. I still believe he was over-charged.
This might be one of those cases where being a dumb ass should warrant a life sentence.
All that carnage over a protest of a statue that wasn’t hurting anybody except some commie snowflakes’ feelings.

I still believe the “Neo Nazis” who showed up at the protest with their tiki torches and brand new flags were a deep state democrat operation.
There was lots of sketchy things documented in videos from the scene preceding the event, starting with the unoccupied vehicle parked at the stop sign on the one-way street to create the bottle neck on the street, to the activities of various folks with previous extreme leftie backgrounds being convenient eyewitnesses and demonstrating knowledge of where/when to be in a coordinated fashion.
Why did the state/local police restrict access/egress to the permitted event location in such a way as to ensure a conflict between parties?
And don’t forget that 2 VA State troopers suffered a fatal crash in a well-maintained aircraft that regularly carried the crooked guv’ner. This occurred basically in the hour of the events... what a coincidence. What did they know or have seen/recorded by air?
And the the unfortunate (and extremely obese) victim die of a heart attack as her mom said on camera once, or was she crushed? Autopsy?
I’m sure all of that online evaluation of video from that day is now down the youtube memory hole, but i was convinced that there were other plans in motion that day other than just a freaked out/panicked driver, but that element is certainly in play.
Believe they were deep state also. A few signs point to that. We can think deep state or traitor state for the deaths.

Didn’t the victim die LATER of a heart attack?? Her injuries sustained would not have killed her, IIRC.
If that report is legitimate, then we have a clear premeditation. I’m wondering why that has not been a prominent component of other reporting.
God gives mercy, but justice must still be served.
The media coverage of the criminal case pretty much ended when the dude pleaded guilty. There was no trial, so it’s not like this was rolled out in a public court proceeding as part of the prosecution’s case.
There was some confusion early on because the autopsy listed “cardiac arrest” as the cause of death, but it also said clearly that it was the result of blunt force trauma from getting hit by the car.
Not much later.
She died of "blunt force trauma to the chest" which no doubt caused her cardiac arrest.
Yes, that is ridiculous. He should have gotten 7 years, minimum.
