A U.S. high-altitude drone was shot down Thursday by an Iranian surface-to-air missile over the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions in the region after last week’s attacks on two oil tankers, a source told Fox News.
A commander for Iran's Revolutionary Guard said the shooting sends `a clear message' to the U.S. He said while Iran has no intention of war with anyone, it's "ready for war."... (MQ-4C drone).

Yes. I remember that accident and the subsequent actions by Iran. My point in this shoot down is this is going to cause a measured response, rightly or wrongly. I was really hoping all sides would back down. But, I don’t see that happening now.

But, I am not sure Putin is ready to attack America. He knows damned well that Trump would not back down and would nuke Moscow if he fired one nuke at the USA. He is doing in Venezuela what the Russians did in Cuba back in the 1960s. I was a kid, but I remember that Cuban missile crisis. It was on TV every night as our family sat at the table and watched the Huntley - Brinkley Report on TV. Mom liked them the best.
I would not be surprised that Putin might try to sneak in nukes down there for the shorter flight time to our bases and ports from Miami all the way around to Brownsville, Tx. Short flight time to Forts Bliss, Polk, Benning, Knox, (dang I cannot pull it out of my slowly going out of business mind, but the other large Army base in Texas, dang my brain cannot remember it) the Navy and Army flight schools in Southern Alabama and on the Fla coast, Southern Command down in Tampa. Lots of ports on the Gulf side of the coast line. The oil and gas plants in Texas and Louisiana. Lots of short flight time bases and targets to hit.

Article 19 also includes what is required of the Coastal State to allow for safe passage -
1. The coastal State shall not hamper the innocent passage of foreign ships through the territorial sea except in accordance with this Convention. (b) discriminate in form or in fact against the ships of any State or against ships carrying cargoes to, from or on behalf of any State.
2. The coastal State shall give appropriate publicity to any danger to navigation, of which it has knowledge, within its territorial sea.
When you start mining waters used in international trade you pretty much lose claiming Article 19 protection IMHO.
