It happened last Friday at a Walmart location in Cypress, northwest of Houston, according to KTRK-TV.
The greeter, Mohinder Randhawa, told the station he just wanted to check that a customer had paid for a case of Gatorade being carried out of the store.
Thats when the suspect, identified as Craig Valentine, 42, of Hockley, got angry, started yelling, and then cold-cocked him, Randhawa said.
"He punched on my face with a closed right hand," Randhawa told KTRK. "I fell down on the ground."
"My left upper lip was broken from here, blood started out, and inside also there was a cut about half an inch," he continued.
Randhawa claims he never accused the suspect of stealing the drinks.
He said cashiers sometimes miss an item while scanning a customers purchases and he just wanted to check.
I was doing my duty", the greeter explained. I was doing what I was supposed to do.

Randhawa was reviewing the suspects receipt on June 14, he said, when I noticed that there was a case of Gatorade that had not been paid for.
Randhawa, who has been with the company for 15 years, told the station that occasionally a cashier simply misses an item while scanning.
I told him if you want, you can scan and take it, Randhawa said, adding that he never implied that the suspect, Craig Valentine, 42, was attempting to steal the product.
In a security video, Valentine appears to become agitated, pushing Randhawa before punching him in the face.
The hit caused Randhawa to black out, and he doesnt remember much of the attack. He still cant bring himself to watch the security footage. ...

Craig dindu nuffin...
About a month ago, our Wal-Mart began checking customers’ receipts as they left the building the way Costco does.
Nice guy.. meet them everywhere.
Now you get fired because Walmart's a bunch of chickenshits.
Our walmart has always checked receipts. Especially for big items like a case of something that isn’t in a bag.
Indians like Mohinder are supposed to have a stiff upper lip.
Stupid remark.
You must live in a pretty nice area, if they're just now starting to do it.

How many H1Bs does Walmart employ?
Just a guess...that’s not Mr. Randhawa.
Are they doing every customer? I haven’t set foot in a Wally for months because I got fed up with being stopped when I left while people all around me with unbagged items were cruising on out unsearched. And no one checking the second entrance.
And the mgr had the stupidity to admit: they are trained to stop ppl with things not in bags.
To which I replied: oh, so if I want to steal from you, all I have to do is put the item in a bag?
And, what are you going to do in neighborhoods banning plastic bags.
Near Houston. That explains a lot.
My Walmart greeters ask, “May I see your receipt?”
I say, “no you may not”, “Only if you tackle me”, or my lengthier, “No, you may not. You have no legitimate authority over me.”
Must be in their training manual, as they all respond, “Have a nice day”
Most of them recognize me by now, and don’t ask, but if there’s a new one, I get to say my small act of rebellion against what I see as social engineering, not just theft deterrence.
Ahhh, the Amish. Always good for a chuckle, those Amish... bless their dear hearts.
