Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador convened a special legislative session to hold the vote after the Senate convened in April..The USMCA is synonymous with opportunity in the short and long term, Mexican Sen. Verónica Martínez García said of the pact.
Canada has already introduced legislation through its parliament to ratify the agreement and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to lobby Democrats to support the USMCA during his visit to Washington, D.C., this week.
Meanwhile, the deal is running into some roadblocks , Speaker Nancy Pelosi has the authority to bring legislation on the matter before the chamber, but has expressed hesitation about the deal, which she says lacks adequate mechanisms to enforce its labor and environmental provisions.
If the agreement between the three North American countries gets finalized, it will replace NAFTA, which was established in 1994.

House Democrats won’t approve the deal unless Mexico brings its labor protection up to par with the U.S.
It must be ratified by each country’s ‘legislature’.
We were OUTCHOPing on the JFK, anchored off Rota, Spain before we sailed back across the Atlantic to go home. The morning we were weighing anchor, they played that sound over the 1MC for the entire crew, and the last words have just stayed with me my whole life:
But you know he'll always keep moving
You know he's never gonna stop moving
'Cause he's rolling, he's the rolling stone
And when you wake up, it's a new morning
The sun is shining, it's a new morning
And you're going, you're going home
Whoever chose that song that morning is a hero to me. Every time I hear that song, even now, I get a wave of wonderful nostalgia, remembering how good it felt to be going back to my family and friends...:)
Too many acronyms in the world. Mostly they exist as an entry barrier to a particular vocation or trade. Things like DASD (IBM hardware) or PPAP (Manufacturing Engineering).
Unfortunately this is a sickening sacrifice of our sovereignty along the lines of the Pacific trade deal that Trump stopped us from getting into.
There is no good reason for then putting it into this deal. We’d be better off with the old NAFTA or no deal than this one.
I don’t consider myself “ dumb” and I didn’t know either!!
Oblivious or incognizant? Maybe those are terms I could use.
You pick.

The link us posted.
That is how I found out.
Not especially. ;-)
Welp.
That’s dating me.
I knew instantly what DASD stood for. AS/400 alumni here. ;-)
I’ve not followed the trade deal closely. I’ve only heard that it balances out uneven trade between the three countries, ie, fosters fair trade, not “free” trade.
Could you share briefly how it sacrifices our sovereignty.
Thanks.
AS/400... Damn good iron but ridiculously priced. Had one. Got it for free. Ridiculous for a 25 year old to have one at home don’t you think. ;-) Learned a lot from it. Did some of the gui screen scaperification on it for a couple of customers.

Thanks caww. I don't think that's going to be a problem in about 19 months.

Bring plenty of cash. These aren’t five-dollar crack whore hookers. They’re expensive.
Read this and weep:

You’re right. Mexico has the right to IMMUNITY from any aspect of the free trade agreement that it doesn’t like for “National Sovereignty”. Canada and the US don’t have such rights.
This deal is literally worse than NAFTA because it includes back door amnesty for illegals and an entire section dedicated to LGBT rights which didn’t exist in NAFTA. Trump appointed the same people behind TPP to negotiations and got screwed over.
If Mexico just voted approval and Trudeau who is with the President right now wants it, Nancy can pound sand.
