The best women's soccer players on the planet will lean on their loved ones for support as they vie for the trophy in the 2019 World Cup, which begins June 7.
For two players on Team USA, their partner will be right next to them on the bench: Defender Ali Krieger and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris are engaged to be married.
The longtime couple went public with their relationship in March in People magazine. Together since 2010, the American soccer stars were engaged last September, and plan to marry in December.
Harris, 33, described to People how the relationship started: We became really close friends, and we just hung out, we clicked, and we had so much in common. We always sat next to each other on the bus and on flights, and we kind of just talked about our dreams and our hopes and what we wanted to do one day when we grew up. ... The rest has kind of been history.
The couple kept the relationship private for years, partly out of a desire to be "professional" as teammates (they also play together on the Orlando Pride of the National Women's Soccer League), Krieger said. But they felt comfortable sharing their engagement this spring.

I’m actually enjoying watching the Cricket World Cup.
It’s kind of like Golf, where you go back to it at certain times, instead of just sitting through the whole thing, because the matches can take up to over 8 hours for the One Day matches.
I hear ya. I enjoy baseball. When I was in undergrad, a group of the foreign students started a Cricket club, and I would watch some of the games. Cricket is a fascinating sport of strategy.
I’m still in that learning phase, where I am learning the strategy and the history.
I’d love to attend a match someday.
I thought the point was obvious. There has been women's soccer for decades. The US team won it all last time yet there was not THIS much media hype as before. Google never had a special logo for the Women's World Cup. Comcast never created special content links on all their programming guides for Women's World Cup. And it started weeks before the first game was played. A lot of people questioned that...wondering what is the big deal this time? There were comments and threads about it on FR.
The media blitz has been unprecedented. Now I know why. Toi me, it has nothing to do with gay athletes per se. I don't give a tinker's dam about what one athlete does with another off the field.
But...it has everything thing to do with the MSM and the usual outlets PUSHING their favorite sacred cow on all...no matter what.
THAT was the point.
They said they had kept their relationship private because they were Professional...I guess representing the USA is time to market their relationship...Seems kinda selfish, so much for your teammates ....Just kick the ball....stop with the self promoting gay bs...
LOL!
Ah, but they felt the need to make the announcement for Pride month, I guess. Still, with all of their self-promotion, I didn’t know who they were until I saw this article on FR.
It is fun to watch the game in person. I have been tempted to play, but there isn’t a team outside of the university.
Even with all the hype, what we have here is another wnba, nobody cares.
I still look forward to this mob of women losing. They do not represent me.
LOL, I think if I ever tried to face one of those Indian bowlers I would jump out of the way, the spins they put on the ball are scary. I’d rather face a baseball pitcher.
There was a great article on her...not long ago..at ESPN.com. A good read....
Is that wrong?
‘I still look forward to this mob of women losing’
I’d love that, if only to shut Carly Shimkus up on Foxnews...damn, she’s annoying...
We can just wait until all the US Women’s Soccer players are men.
[ It has nothing...or very little to do with women’s sports. It’s all about the Gay Agenda. ]
Winner - Give that man, no wait, give those two chicks an exploding cigar (Top Secret! movie)
[It wont be long til NFL players start marryin each other!]
Indeed. That one is probably not too far off.
[Democrats are evil.]
Spirit of antichrist bringing back the days of Genesis 19.
As prophesied. As it was in the Days of Lot. (tagline)
No, all of what went on isn’t mentioned there in Luke 17 but Romans 1 makes it clear, too.
It’s funny how one always appears to play “the man” - or at least part of time
Because they know, deep down, that it’s supposed to be male and female.
On the flip side, with the guys there’s often one that plays “the female” - or so it seems.
