Paul Manafort not going to Rikers Island, will remain in federal custody after DOJ rejects move, source says

The Justice Department has rejected New York County District Attorney Cy Vance Jr.'s attempt to have former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort transferred to the notorious Rikers Island prison complex ahead of his pending state court trial, amid questions as to why the move was even contemplated in the first place, Fox News is told.

Fox News first reported earlier this month that a New York State judge ordered the transfer at Vance's request. However, because Manafort has been convicted on federal charges, any attempt to move him out of federal custody must be approved by Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen. On Monday, Rosen denied the attempt, effectively keeping Manafort in federal custody.

“There’s no reason for [Manafort] to go to Rikers," a source close to the case told Fox News. "He can go to his New York initial appearance and then return to federal custody.”

There is no reason for Manafort to be transported to Rikers. He was convicted in Federal Court, and should be allowed to stay where he is, or be detained at a Federal prison like The Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. I’m glad somebody got on top of this. This was a deliberate move by the Democrat slugs in NY City, to have control over Manafort for the next phase of his legal hearings. Cyrus Vance is the same puke to refused to initially prosecute Weinstein, after having received a payment to his political coffers from Weinstein’s attorney.

They wanted to put him in Rikers so that he would be killed. Someone wants to silence him before he talks...

This ploy was so outrageous that even "woke" AOC condemned it, saying that NY prosecutors were making a political prisoner out of Manafort. She said prison reform meant prison reform for everyone. My jaw dropped to say the least.

I am horrified that no one is horrified over the Manafort case.

Ten million dollars in bail for a white collar crime revoked. What happened to the Eighth Amendment?

Some flight risk; like he could make a move that the media would miss.

Ten million for violating a little known, rarely enforced statute routinely violated by half of K Street with impunity.

An early morning no knock raid, terrorizing Manafort and his entirely innocent wife who was frisked in her nightgown.

Manafort and his attorneys were fully cooperating with the persecution. There was no legit cause for the raid.

Twenty three hours a day in solitary without so much as a newspaper. A treat generally reserved for violent criminals deemed too dangerous to mingle with the general population of violent criminals.

But, that was just not sufficient punishment for the high crime of refusing to make sh*t up about President Trump. Manafort had to be given the death penalty.

Thank gawd we have a real AG who stopped this despicable persecution.

These are Putinesque tactics.

I will stipulate that Manafort is not the most sympathetic player on the board. And, he probably broke the law. He belongs at Camp Cupcake, not in The Hole.

How is it that we are not full of outrage over this? And terrified that our government has gotten so out of control?

“New York County District Attorney Cy Vance Jr”

He’s not a federal officer. Nobody in the federal government has the authority to fire him.

I agree. AOC, at some level, understands that the State can be hugely evil against the individual. I give her credit on this.

"I am horrified that no one is horrified over the Manafort case."

I think that what was done to Manafort opened the eyes of millions of people to the lengths the State and Federal Government will go to, in order to punish a political opponent. Even AOC understands that this is rule by terror, it is not a lady with a blindfold dispensing justice without bias. It is political thuggery and people SHOULD be horrified, not only that it happened, but by the gleeful reaction of media personalities who should be questioning instead if cheering. What shouldn't surprise people is which political party endorses this tactic.

At least someone in the DOJ had the integrity to put a stop to it. It is the attempt by the left to put someone in a gulag where he could be destroyed out of view.

In some rather warped respects she is actually principled.

There’s no good reason for him to be in jail in the first place.
