I used to be a hawk.
But, between the total hash made of Trashcanistan, Iraq, and Syria (NOT the armed forces fault!), the loss of so many lives, and the waste of so much treasure, I’ve become very anti-war.
It’s not that I don’t believe in fighting, its that I believe in winning and making victory stick.
If the Iranians want to close the Straights, let Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States do their own fighting. Eff ‘em all.
Ditto for Israel. Whatever they have against Iran, let them do their own fighting.
Why not let the rest of the world deal with this mess? We are self-sustaining and have all the oil we need. Other countries, not so much. Screw the leeches.

As a non_interventionist, I am also known on FR as Commie Puke, Putin’s Butt Boy, Assadist, etc. Plus, many calls for Ride the Lightning Zot, etc, and accusations that I am a member of some sort of anti US Sleeper Cell.

I’m in the same boat. I’m a veteran; however I believe our military is not being used correctly. We either fight to decisively win or stay at home. Tired of being the world police for shithole countries.
The ONLY regime that the Kenyan in Chief did not want removed was Iran. Obama,Clinton and McCain lit a match to the Mideast which benefited Iran greatly.

I was in the Army a long time ago.
I realized we were going to lose in Afghanistan very early when I read that, rather than killing bin Laden’s wives and kids, the drone operators called a Pentagon lawyer who nixed the whole thing. If we’re not ruthless to use their vehicles and their Al Qaeda body guards (perfectly legit targets) to dish a little “collateral damage” pain on to bin Laden, we’re not ruthless enough to win in Afghanistan or anywhere else.
Then I started by supporting Assad (Fascism is a step up from an Islamic “Republic”). He was better than all of the alternatives - including the “Free” Syrian Army (which was just another front for radical Islamists).
Now the only thing I want are are our troops out of the ME (and Western Europe for that matter), and on our Southern Border.
Europe could invoke NATO, but Israel is on her own.

There are no “latest tensions with Iran”. They have been at war with the United States since they took the US Embassy in Tehran and 79 and Khomeini came to power.
