Yes. She did marry Onassis for money and for the protection his wealth and European homes (and yachts!) provided. It was a very bad marriage though and I think he was going to divorce her.
I remember reading about the two of them lining up to get into PJ Clarke’s in the 60s. It seemed so glamorous to me although Clarke’s was basically a dump, lol.

Melania won a million dollars over the slander that she was an escort. Speaks five languages fluently, has a bachelor's degree in art and architecture, and her native Slovenia is NOT in Russia. I agree with those who say she is far above Jackie. Leftist IQ’s have fallen a lot lately.

Camelot will live forever in their demented minds.
Demented now, but Camelot was pretty cool. We all had stars in our eyes over the new first family. Kennedy would be right of center today, the Dems have moved so far left.
Vaughn Meader sold tons of albums, Robert Goulet sang, “Camelot,” and Cuba was sequestered. Not a bad time, actually.

Anybody but me struck by how much Melania and Raquel have in common?

“We all had stars in our eyes over the new first family.”
Not ALL. In OUR family, we all had tears in our eyes, and knots in our stomachs, over that new first family. I remember Mom crying like a baby when we learned that Kennedy won the election. Sickening.

JFK was a rock star; Nixon was a sweaty complainer.
And since Democrats were no where near as leftist
as today, I can’t imagine why your parents would be
that upset.

It would be so nice if Fox and OAN would interview her more!

Imagine.
My parents were Christians.
My parents were Republicans.
Rats weren’t as leftist then as now, but they were left of GOP then.
Being a “rock star” is how you pick your president?

I have a feeling that Melania is a private, dignified person who is probably happy being out of the limelight as much as her position allows.

It’s amazing the number of people where voting for the US President is still picking the prom king & queen?

Being portrayed as a war hero didn’t hurt.
My perspective in this is strictly neutral,
in that I wouldn’t be politicized for another
ten years. As military, JFK struck us as
a terrific CINC. So to us, he was a rock star.

JFK was a rock star; Nixon was a sweaty complainer. Communist Big Media were all into fake news, bias, and propagandistic video production even then. And you slurp it all up without giving a moment's thought.
The entire Kreepy Kennedy Klan, most especially including Saint Jack, were and are crooks and liars.

Vass you dere, Chollie? The zeitgeist changes over time. The press was not into fake news so much before the VN war
Try to look at other times without necessarily bringing all the baggage of today along with it. To do otherwise is to drive yourself crazier.

Well, there was yellow journalism and the New York Graphic, I suppose. But that’s pale stuff in comparison. We still had plenty of conservative newspapers to offset the crazies. And TV is pretty much apolitical.

My parents were Christians.
So they viewed JFK’s being Catholic as non-Christian?
Fear of having a president answer to the Pope was an
offshoot of the campaign, but I don’t know how seriously
anyone actually took that.
