Skip to comments. Why Modi is even more dangerous than Trump

The global community, obsessed as it is with Donald Trump, needs to wake up to the real danger coming from the worlds so-called largest secular democracy. While many politicians in Canada rightly make a big fuss about Trump, they wont raise their voices against Modi, whose followers have made inroads into public and cultural spaces like the Nazis did.
After all, India re-elected a right-wing Hindu nationalist, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with a brutal majority on May 23. His Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), known for its anti-minority stance and an agenda to transform India into a Hindu theocracy, secured 300 out of 542 seats in the parliament. This is despite five years of repression of religious minorities, especially Muslims and Christians.
The very fact that he was able to increase the number of seats from the 282 his party won in the 2014 election shows that his rhetoric against inclusion and diversity has been accepted by the electorate.
The kind of support Modi has received from movie stars and celebrities is unimaginable, in contrast to the criticism Trump has faced from strong voices in Hollywood.
Modi belongs to the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), an ultranationalist organization that wants to establish a Hindu state. BJP is a political wing of the RSS, whose founding fathers idealized Hitler and believed in dealing with Muslims and Christians in the same manner that Hitler dealt with Jews. For RSS, the two communities follow foreign religions and members should be treated as second-class citizens.
Attacks on minorities
Modi is widely blamed for the anti-Muslim massacre of Gujarat in 2002. He was the chief minister of the state when Muslims were targeted by the mobs led by BJP activists following the burning of a train carrying Hindu pilgrims. More than 50 people had died in the incident, which was blamed on Islamic fundamentalists by Modi. This was followed by well-organized violence against Muslims, and many people continue to say it had the blessing of Modi, who wanted to scapegoat Muslims to win the impending assembly election.
Although Modi was never convicted for those mass murders, several Western countries, including the U.S., denied him a visa for many years, until he was elected as prime minister in 2014. Under Modi, attacks on religious minorities have grown sharply all over India. The social justice activists campaigned hard to get him defeated this time, but couldnt succeed. Their message for a secular and inclusive India had no takers. This can also be attributed to the fact that the main opposition party, Indian National Congress, had its own baggage.
In spite of tall claims of being secular, the Congress had engineered anti-Sikh pogroms in 1984 following the assassination of prime minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards. Not only was justice denied to the victims for years, but the Congress failed to show genuine remorse.
This had also benefited Modi and his party, who repeatedly brought up the issue of 1984 to counter the Congress party and its apologists, who have been seeking to replace BJP government on the slogan of secularism.
Whereas the Congress indulged in anti-Sikh massacre for short-term electoral benefits by polarizing the Hindu majority against the minority Sikh community, the BJP has a well-designed long-term program of social engineering aimed at creating a Hindu nation. They can be best described as Hindu supremacists who consider Islam and Christianity as alien faiths, while Sikhs and Buddhists are part of the Hindu fold. Their policy of assimilating Sikhs and Buddhists is also resisted by many activists from these two religious groups.
Canada needs to pay attention
Modis re-election needs to be taken seriously by the international community. Often people have equated Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump. Undoubtedly, there are many commonalities between the two men, who have stoked fear of minorities to win elections.
Modi, however, is in fact far more dangerous, as his party has a much bigger following and fascist tendencies. They are capable of altering the social and political landscape through penetration at all levels of governance. The signs are already before us. The kind of support Modi has received from movie stars and celebrities is unimaginable, in contrast to the criticism Trump has faced from strong voices in Hollywood.
I wish the world had paid a little more attention to this scenario and heard the cries of Muslims and Christians. Its time that Canadians start questioning what is happening in India rather than being focused only on trade relations with that country. The day isnt far when the RSS will grow its presence within the Indian diaspora in this part of the world. They have already done that in the U.S., and Canada isnt immune.
The muslim view.
Blah blah blah...
Amazed the writer didn’t manage to squeeze in some of the usual slogans like: “Kashmir is Pakistan!”
I swear it’s gotten to the point, where nearly the entirety of world media is as predictable as rain: Pro-Muslim, and anti-everything other than Muslim, and ESPECIALLY anti-Jew.
Muslims don’t like Modi....
Can the Muslims deny the millions upon millions killed by Muslims in India over the last thousand years???
No they can’t.
I don’t care if the Hindus nut up and start killing every muslim who hasn’t relocated to pocky-stan yet.
In fact I might cheer them on because I remember the cheering Muslims worldwide after 911.
This is so much used food, Mr. Singh.
LOL...he keeps trying to lump in Christians with Muslims...yet provides no examples of when Modi has “oppressed” Christians. FAIL. Hindu state? Why the hell not?
Problem is - The Hindus kill just as many Christians over there too. I have pastor friends in India. Modi is TERRIBLE for Christians in India and Hindus kill Christians more than they do Muslims. We lost two pastors in our network last year alone in the Chhattisgarh area to them and I had one pastor in jail under false charges early last year....not from Muslims...but from Hindus.
The Modi government is also trying to stop all religious aid from Christian sources from other countries. I won't be able to send money to help the widows and orphans we now help unless I have the same last name as the person on the receiving end. This isn't about Muslims only...it is about ANYONE who isn't Hindu. Modi is terrible for religious freedom and India is becoming a persecutor of Christians - along the same lines as Muslim countries.
One of the two dangerous men with a third dangerous man :
I’ll turn in my give a damn when Modi is leading 1000s of dots chanting death to America.
Just a quick search on google shows multiple news reports of increased persecution of Christians since the radical Hindu party has taken power.
Utter horse manure. Christians in India are a miniscule population (2 % or less) and from what I hear from Indians they mostly confined to a couple or so of southern states, and are so small in number they don't even register in national political discourse as an identity group. Muslims on the other hand are 15+ % , vocal and especially in the northern state of Kashmir are very prone to violence. BJP's beef is with Islamic terrorism and their sympathizers, not "Muslims and Christians". The mainstream media lump them in one bucket to create the impression Modi's party is anti minority but what it is is anti Islamist.
India for Indians,
Packety-packety-pak-ee-staaahn for the Mooselimb Packys.
Why Christians are in the land of dirt, dots and diarrhea is beyond me.
I’m many ways, defacto, the majority rules
That’s a big reason why white, christians of european background should be worried about becoming a minority in America.
As I have read, posted by another writer, when that happens, that’s when the blood will flow.
Question everything you read. Look up the authors, their other articles and sometimes the source itself - and see if there is a hidden narrative. Articles coming from so called trusted sources are sometimes just purchased from independent contributors who have their own agenda.
“Modi is widely blamed for the anti-Muslim massacre of Gujarat in 2002.”
I remember reading the news about it. Hindus retaliated after Muslims set fire to a train carrying Hindu pilgrims. There was a massacre of Hindus perpetrated by Muslims. Why didn’t the author of the article mention this?
What is dangerous about Trump?
First of all, there are Christians in the south but also in the north and NE (West Bengal). Message me and I will prove your post to me to be absolutely FALSE with pictures from my laptop, and emails sent to me by my pastors. “What you hear” is wrong. I spent an hour on a video WattsApp chat with my pastor, who lives in Alipurduar, WB, India just yesterday morning and I text him almost daily. I have other pastors in Andra Pradesh and Chattisgarh that tell me the same thing. What you hear and what I know and can prove are two different things. “Utter horse manure?” Yeah...OK...the pics I will email you will tell you a different story and I can send you the email address of my pastors if you want to confirm what I am saying.
Thank you for your post
He is Pro-America, and not Pro-Muslim. Very dangerous...
Go Modi! Crush the moozlums.
Islam is a religion of peace.
George pretzel Bush said so...
