Jim Watson, the mayor of Ottawa, Canada, urged the Toronto Raptors to visit the Canadian Parliament instead of the White House after the team won the NBA Finals this week.
Watson called on Prime Minister Trudeau to invite the team to the countrys Parliament in an online post on Friday.
Forget the White House for a victory lap. Come to Ottawa and Parliament Hill so Canada can congratulate you, Watson wrote.
It is unclear whether the White House plans to invite the championship team for visit to meet President Trump.

James Naismith was Canadian. Also, now that Canada is becoming more multicultural, more and more you hear hockey derided as a game for "White Canadian rednecks."
I'm enjoying how Canadians are celebrating "their" team of American players, eh?
“Hollywood”, very much full of himself and an embarrassment for many of us up here.
I can’t think of any reason a team from Toronto should be invited to the White House anyway
Best idea I’ve heard on this topic!!!
The Blue Jays did.
Oh?
Was there some sort of basketball championship?
They’re not even a real country, anyway.
I don't think they have a TRUMP hating Coach but a lot of Black players so I'm guessing NO
I hope Trump doesn't invite any teams to the White House. It just allows the thugs and the chronically unhappy the opportunity to criticize our president.
...and WHO FREAKIN CARES what a gang of thugs with a ball do?
The Praries are worth it, as are Northern Territories and Nova Scotia. They can keep the left coasts and the Québécois but we get Rush and Gordon Lightfoot.
Yes, Naismith was born in Ontario, Canada but he became a citizen as an adult.
BTW, if you read the history of basketball, is credited with inventing the game of basketball but it apparently was similar to another game of that time.
The first game of basketball was played between the faculty and students. One of the players was Amos Alonzo Stagg who had just graduated from Yale and who later went on to coach football at the University of Chicago for years. He invented many football plays including (allegedly) the t-formation, lateral pass, and my favorites the fumble ruskie and the statue of liberty play. Almost forgot - he allegedly invented the batting cage and the tackling dummy.

Perhaps they should.
Suppose that Justin will dress up as a basketball player for the meeting?
Well...it is a Canadian basketball team. Would the Maple Leafs go to the White House if they won the Stanley Cup?
First thing I thought, too. Stay in Canada, where you can be happy for yourselves.
