Gun owners stockpile ammo before new California background check law begins

California ammo buyers are making a run on gun shops ahead of a new state law, which on July 1 will require buyers of bullets to show identification and undergo a background check to screen out felons and people with illegal firearms.

In a state with the toughest gun laws in the nation, Gov. Gavin Newsom and some other leaders see restricting ammunition sales as a necessary next step in reducing gun tragedies.

Newsom included restrictions on bullets in Proposition 63, his statewide initiative that was approved by voters in 2016 and that helped raise his profile for his run for governor.

“From San Bernardino to Ventura to Poway, too many Californians have already died from gun violence,” Newsom said last week. “I championed Prop. 63 because it is beyond time that we take common sense actions such as these to keep deadly ammo out of the wrong hands and protect our communities.”

Easy fix...Nevada.

Except that Nevada sporting good stores and gun shops, at least along the border, are checking IDs before selling ammo, and if you are from California, no sale.

Hire Illegals to bring ammo up from Mexico.

Might as well.

There’s an adhesive that has too high a solvent level to be legally purchased in California. I’ve heard some bizarre smuggling stories

I have shelves just groaning from the weight of lead and multiple GI ammo cans stuffed full. When that runs out there are thousands of brass plus reloading set up. Bring it Gavin.

Are the CHPs going to do ammo border checks soon?

What is reaction of OR, NV, AZ? Will we have ammo stands springing over the border?

Well, if they need more growth in CA, they will have the largest black market in the country.

...and then come the background processing fees...and State ammo taxes...and purchase limits.

All part of the plan...recall the bloviating in Kali about high taxes on individual rounds?

He buys from Target Sports USA and also from Sportsmans Outdoor Superstore. Both ship direct to house either UPS or FedEx and they have good prices. He has the guns, just needs to feed them.

“Newsom included restrictions on bullets in Proposition 63, his statewide initiative that was approved by voters in 2016”

Isn’t it lovely that a plurality of heavily propagandized morons can vote away your freedoms? Just like Arizona did with it’s smoking ban.

Ya love Democrats: quit punishing criminals, create poverty at an astonishing rate, then punish honest taxpayers for the skyrocketing crime rate you’ve facilitated.

I have a lot of family in Oregon, two of my uncles (deceased) told me that Oregon was a great state back in the day. Both told me that if they knew what Oregon was devolving into, they would never have settled there.

OK since the author of the article obviously does not know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to ammunition I'll help the poor ignorant fool out.

Bullets will still be available, it is loaded cartridges that you are really talking about. The bullet is the hunk of copper coated lead/steel that leaves the end of the barrel after the explosion expansion expulsion sequence takes place.

The cartridge is made up of four components. The primer in a center fire round, the brass case, the gunpowder, and the bullet make up the “Cartridge” that you load into the other end.

Words of advice to the stupid ass author is that you really should know what in the hell you are talking about before you publicly make a horses ass out of yourself.

I was told to use nothing but CCI’s in my .22 pistols and rifles since the regular ones don’t have enough power to really throw the bolt back and you get stove-piped casings caught on the bolt.

I don’t like Kaliforniastan; wouldn’t live there if you paid me and gave me the house to live in; only been there twice, both times because of the Army, a week at Monterey for a one week legal criminal law refresher course, AND TO FLY TO VIETNAM!!! So, one week was fun and the other sent me to Nam and I got my butt shot off and spent four months in a hospital!! To hell with Kaliforniastan!!! May the big one make that state break off at the Nevada border and float out into the Pacific and sink somewhere far, far out!!! The liberals and illegals can fight each other for the boats.

It’s gonna happen and there isn’t a thing those rabid looney Kalifornia liberals can do about it. Liberty will not be denied for those who seek it.
