Go to a firing range and rent one, try it, and if it’s what you like, buy it. They’ll most likely have all the accessories you’ll need/want.
Rent some handguns at the indoor range, too, and try them out. 9mm is a good starter. I have Kimber 1911 .45cal ACPs, but that caliber may be more than you’re comfortable with.

They may have uncovered something after the fact, but that is not the point. The underlying cause needs to be discovered months or years ahead of the act.
So what have they uncovered that was a clear and positive fact known to friends and family in the year 2015?
