What have the US and Poland agreed to? The two leaders have signed a joint declaration affirming the countries' co-operation on defence.
The agreement includes provisions for Poland to provide "basing and infrastructure for 1,000 American troops", who would be temporarily stationed on a rotational basis.
When later questioned reporters, however, Mr Trump said "they're talking about 2,000 troops".
Around 5,000 troops already rotate in and out of Poland. This is part of a 2016 Nato agreement, made in response to Moscow's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
In a separate deal, Poland has ordered 32 F-35 fighter jets, which are made in the US by Lockheed Martin.
Shortly before the press conference, in an unusual display, two F-35 planes flew over the White House to show off their moves.

Poland has been asking for our troop support for quite a while. Mostly, ever since Putin retook Crimea.
Why couldn’t I get that assignment when I was in.
We have more than enough problems here at home. I’m tired of foreign adventures.
I admire Poland. But 5,000 US troops are both too many, and nowhere near enough.
Wrong border, Donald.
From what I am reading in the military and aviation press....the F35 is destined to become the Brewster Buffalo of the 21st Century.
I don’t know, it could be a rough assignment.

.
It is really a token force, but a message to Putin. "leave Poland ALONE, We are prepared to back up the Polish government." That and we sold them one of the most advanced fighter/bombers on the planet.
I bet the troops will enjoy their deployment there. From what I understand the Polish people are very friendly and they love Trump and the US.
Lovely country. Almost moved there.
Seems like every bit of new equipment we field, there’s a long list of people willing to trash it. When it becomes commonplace in the military, there doesn’t seem to be the massive negative reactions to it. In fact, it generally works just fine.
I’ve not always been on board the F35. We’ll see how it goes.
It’s being implemented. We don’t have anything else at the present time that meets it’s level of flexibility, unless I’m forgetting an aircraft I shouldn’t.
Maybe this is in preparation for taking a ton of troops out of
Germany, who is not willing to pay for US security.
Besides, Germany and Russia both carved up Poland during WW2.
Groan. The warmongers and neocons at it again. Sigh.
Im glad someone else gets it.
Consider a moment the inflow of money Germany gets from our troops stationed and living there...in many cases their families, too. Supplies to the base, the utilities...everything. And all of the VAT taxes on German stuff they buy.
Now less to Germany and more to Poland. Good.
We need divisions at our border.
It should be a complete Brigade Combat Team. About 4100 troops.
It’s exactly opposite of warmongering.
It’s a small rotational deployment, yet a strong deterrent against the Russians.
This prevents war.
My daughter is going this year. I’ll be there in August.
Good
Move them out of germany
