What have the US and Poland agreed to? The two leaders have signed a joint declaration affirming the countries' co-operation on defence.
The agreement includes provisions for Poland to provide "basing and infrastructure for 1,000 American troops", who would be temporarily stationed on a rotational basis.
When later questioned reporters, however, Mr Trump said "they're talking about 2,000 troops".
Around 5,000 troops already rotate in and out of Poland. This is part of a 2016 Nato agreement, made in response to Moscow's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
In a separate deal, Poland has ordered 32 F-35 fighter jets, which are made in the US by Lockheed Martin.
Shortly before the press conference, in an unusual display, two F-35 planes flew over the White House to show off their moves.

A school chum of mine was drafted and in order to wiggle out of RVN he enlisted in the US Army for duty in Germany.
He was a clerk cutting leave orders.
His buddies filled him in on ‘the system’.
Get all the work finished, Give YOURSELF leave for a few days, on return destroy all the paperwork so not accumulate any used leave time.
Repete as needed.
He was there for a couple of years and remembers it fondly.
Germany was a really good assignment when I was a PFC right out of Basic in 1988. Any soldier going to Poland should take full advantage of that experience.
It’s enough to give Russia pause before they contemplate any territorial encroachments into Poland. If U.S. troops are in the region, even in relatively small numbers, what might otherwise be an aggression between two neighbors suddenly involves the U.S. Think about it. If, God forbid, the Russians decided to attack a Polish base and in the process killed some Americans stationed there, suddenly an attack on Poland would have just escalated into something much more serious - something Russia doesn’t want and would likely try to avoid.
Ive not always been on board the F35. Well see how it goes.
Its being implemented. We dont have anything else at the present time that meets its level of flexibility, unless Im forgetting an aircraft I shouldnt.
I’m a numbers kind of guy, and the F-22 is darn near as good as the F-35 and much cheaper to build, or was until they destroyed the ability to build it to fund the F-35. We need numbers and technology as tech alone will not save us. Just my humble opinion.
Amen. Trump realizes who our true modern allies are.
And resurgent energy production in America is keeping the Russian bear at bay. I hear Putin has political difficulties in his own country.

Not all bad reflections, considering the times, plus the Finns made better use of them in the colder weather.
Provides a “hands off” message to those who might have “aspirations” for Poland.
I thought we should have built at least twice the F22s we did. Its an amazing aircraft.
The F35 is capable of some things the F22 isnt.
As long as they have worked out the problems, Im okay with it.
