Las Vegas grandmother sues TSA after they 'forced her to do a strip search and made her remove a common feminine hygiene product' (full title)
Rhonda Mengert had been traveling from the Tulsa International Airport on Mother's Day when her hip implant caused the metal detector to sound off. Mengert - who has TSA Pre-check - informed agents that she had the implant but agreed to a pat down test. During the pat down, an agent found a 'common feminine hygiene product that Mengert was wearing underneath her clothing.'
The agent then tested her gloves and found no explosive residue on them - as per protocol - but informed Mengert that she had to undergo more test. In a private room, the agent and another forced Mengert to strip out of her pants and underwear.... and remove a 'common feminine hygiene product' before her flight back home.
Mengert's lawyer state that the woman suffered emotional distress during and after the event. ~snip~
She is requesting a trial by jury and is seeking a undetermined amount in damages.
The grandmother had just left her family for the holiday when she experienced the traumatic search
A screener and another agent - the two defendants in the case - instructed Mengert to go into a private room so that they could 'clear the area.'
She was then allegedly told to remove her pants and underwear and to then remove the product for 'visual inspection.'
Initially refusing, Mengert eventually complied and removed her garments while exposing her genitals to the agents.
After she 'satisfied the screeners request' and proved that she wasn't carrying any prohibited items, Mengert had to ask four times if she could leave before she was allowed.

You will never see this with a Muslim women
You will never see this with a Muslim women
From the sound of the above, she did.
She won’t won.
A lesson for all - don’t fly unless you absolutely positively must and even then don’t.
Can anyone guess?
I’ll give you a hint:
Thank you for the correction.
TSA needs to change or shut down.
She’s a Honkey- of the mayo variety.
Yes I know but I believe it was after the metal detector went off. I was wondering because I have three metal pins in my leg and will be traveling soon.
Were you trying for the stupid comment of the day award? Cause you sure just moved to the winner’s circle.
According the article the hip implant was the reason she had a TSA “precheck”. Which I assume means she was pre-cleared for going through metal detectors.
TSA needs to go away.
Screen luggage and guard the runways. No interaction with public without probable cause.
Most women in their fifties are menopausal
If you don’t like my comments, don’t read them.
Thanks
She might be incontinent — same need for feminine products.
“Did she alert TSA about the implant before she went thru metal detector?”
She did. It doesn’t matter. I’ve had an artificial hip since 1985. Even if you tell them, it doesn’t matter. To save time, I go straight to the “naked machine”, get scanned, and still get the pat-down. Every time. I guess just because a person has a prosthesis doesn’t mean he can’t carry bad things through security.
I despise flying. Have to do it in August again to see Mom. [sigh]
I use to love flying. I visited 35 of 50 states. Once TSA started, I stopped flying.
Thank you for the info. I guess I will follow your lead and go to the naked machine as I have metal pins in my leg.
Entirely different product
