Senate Republicans Warn White House Against Mexico Tariffs
NYT ^ | 6/4/2019 | Catie Edmondson and Maggie Haberman

Republican senators sent the White House a sharp message on Tuesday, warning that they were opposed to President Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on Mexican imports, just hours after the president said lawmakers would be “foolish” to try to stop him.

...

“I want you to take a message back” to the White House, Senator Ted Cruz, Republican of Texas, told the attorneys, according to people familiar with the meeting. “You didn’t hear a single yes” from the Republican conference. He called the proposed tariffs a $30 billion tax hike on Texans.

And THIS lack of courage and leadership is why Cruz would NOT EVER be a GREAT President which very clearly is what Trump is. I regret my initial support of Cruz in the 2016 primaries.

Might not need to wait that long

Brexit demonstrated that it is possible to create a new party and win in a matter of months.

It only takes an issue that makes enough people determined to change things and the US voters are very close to that point now.

The GOPe had better take notice of what Brexit did in England.

Amazing, isn’t it that the Democrats can all hang together while every single freaking time the Republicans all choose to hang separately.

Never ... fails. Just ONCE I’d like to see Republicans back the Party.

Are those Senators unable to make a SMALL sacrifice for the long term GOOD OF THE COUNTRY.

THANK GOD THEY WERE NOT IN CHARGE IN 1944.

I’m ashamed of them.

I fear we would ALL be speaking German.

Brexit demonstrated that it is possible to create a new party and win in a matter of months.

A third party with 26% isn't going to win anything in the US.

The Brexit party’s support increased by two points to 26% of the vote in the latest Opinium poll – for the Observer – which asked people how they would vote in the next Westminster election.

Gee. Trump thinks of an unique way to stop this crap and then gets the shaft from the GOP in the Senate. What a bunch of losers and I can’t believe I just did that.

I think the immigration problem creates more strong feelings, more passion, than Britain’s quitting the EU.

The question of Brexit was more akin to our tariff question To many voters, an abstract question not fully understood by all....so there is really a relatively small group who are definitely for or against.

The immigration problem on the other hand is an “in your face” hot button. It affects every person in the country, one way or another.

By the way, the last time I went to the emergency room in the daytime hours on a weekday, I waited 5 hours in line to be seen.

My doctor sent me.

But I made the mistake of driving myself instead of calling for an ambulance because I dislike the idea of tieing up an emergency vehicle that might be needed for a real emergency.

I an sure you know that if you are delivered to the emergency room by an ambulance, you become #1 in line for medical attention.

The waiting room was full of families taking their kids for medical care that any family doctor would normally attend to. By everything from ordinary Hispanics to a few that looked like MS-13.

BS!!

You and your COC paid for who-ares always overlook the BILLIONS (UP TO $40B!!) that Americans have been 'taxed' due to untaxed remittances, being sent to Mexico, via jobs taken from AMERICANS!!

Not to mention all of the FREEBIES THAT THESE INVADERS ARE GIVEN, DAILY!!

Mexico has had this 'tariff' on USA, for decades.

Oh, and thanks for all of the help POTUS gave you, traitor cRuz, during your re-election campaign.

Ingrate.

Rotten SOBs every one of them! The repukes are just as bad as the dimwits. Time for BOTH PARTIES TO DISAPPEAR. They’re paid off, corrupt, power hungry and NONE OF THEM GIVE A D@MN ABOUT US. Most of us have to live in the world THEY CREATED while they live in their gated communities isolated from the crime and crap we have to deal with in the real world. POTUS has my blessing to do WHATEVER IT TAKES to STOP THIS ENEMY INVASION.

Can someone give me a quick explanation of how this tariff thing works. Is it added to the price of something coming in from Mexico?

Yes, and it's paid by the American buyer.
