“... seems to sometimes have only two speeds: insult and over-heaping praise.”
He’s a “counterpuncher” both in insults and in praise. If you hit him with an insult, he’ll floor you with a haymaker, if you praise him, he’ll shower you with compliments.

Again, I love him. We are very fortunate to have him.
But he is also a narcissist who unfortunately is, as you describe, swayed by flattery and seems almost borderline in his assessments of black or white.
Also, smart counterpunching brings your opponent down a peg without your approach splashing back onto you.

It seemed Theresa May was quite smitten by the end of this press conference. I thought, at the point he was praising her Brexit negotiations, that she had teared up a little in her eyes. No tears dropped; but, I thought she got a bit emotional.
He was very complimentary of her; and, I'm not sure she actually deserved it. But, very diplomatic of POTUS.

You are quite right that the next Prime Minister will be a Conservative MP. The contest to succeed Theresa May is just getting underway. Jeremy Hunt is the Foreign Secretary and is in the race, as is Michael Gove (also mentioned by Trump) and the former Mayor of London, and former Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson.

Unfortunately our POTUS for all his great good that hes doing seems to sometimes have only two speeds: insult and over-heaping praise.
You have only one speed; criticizing the President.
To: a little elbow grease
Undeniably and utterly fantastic and impressive. The media will ignore in order to show protesters.

This past weekend my wife and I were at a nice southern coastal resort. We were seated at the lobby bar with another couple across from us when we were both joined by a pompous couple who could not wait to announce they were from DC. In fact, they have lived their whole miserable lives in NW DC. They began a conversation with the other couple quick to announce one of them had a law practice. The other couple mentioned to them they had a commercial building company in the Atlanta area. His wife said gee, DC! we waited a long time to go there and actually attended the inauguration. The lady from DC stumbled over her words akking you mean the recent one. She said yes, it was enjoyable. The DC couple abruptly announced they had to join some wedding group and could not leave quickly enough. The DC deep state IMO is due for a trump style urban renewal. They are nothing but a bunch of pompous inbred insiders who cannot tolerate anyone from the hinterlands.

He's still growing...

I’m thinking he’s fully grown by now—and it’s just a quirk we need to live with.
