An aspiring police officer who was denied a job in his local police force because he was white, straight, and male has won his appeal against the decision.
Matthew Furlong, 25, applied to join Cheshire Police, following in the footsteps of his father Liam Furlong, but was rejected using the so-called “positive action” provisions in the Equality Act.

Sounds like a new euphemism for “affirmative action.” Just like “progressive” has replaced “liberal.”
White. First you are held to a much standard for school discipline.
Then you get better grades and SAT score but find it more difficult to get into college.
Then you graduate and it is more difficult getting a job. All because of race.
If they have a black history month, do they have a fag history month?

Aspiring police applicant learns it isn't rocket science that gets you in, it's not being male and white.
It is amazing that some still speak of some now long gone thing called “white male privilege” as if it still existed. It is in fact no easier to find in the real world than a living Dodo bird. The white male’s current theme song should be Little Jimmy Dickens classic “Take An Old Cold Tater and Wait”.
In my town (next to Newark NJ) we have residency requirements that exempt residents of Newark for police/fire jobs - while Newark is allowed to keep its residency requirement intact.
Just more smoke & mirrors to create an illusion of a viable black middle class; they are not doing these people any favors. The root problems (family, education) aren’t being addressed, but a Band-Aid of affirmative action jobs is applied instead.

Why did he get degrees in particle physics and cosmology if he wanted to be a police officer? Were they easier than Criminal Justice or whatever Britain calls it? Are there no jobs for people with his education?
I guess they can't see their own hypocrisy any more than Democrats can.
Some people change their mind or majors. It happens. In his case, I think it was because his father was a police officer and the son had a change of heart after getting his college degrees.
Not everyone has what it takes to become a cop. I have friends and relatives that became cops, only to change their minds later and quit the force. Other friends I knew as teenagers were punks getting in trouble with the law, and they became successful cops. One was a badass punk who moved in with me as a teen, he got off drugs and cleaned up and joined the police force, retired not too long ago. It shouldn't matter what your schooling background is. And it certainly shouldn't be based on skin color or PC crap which is reverse discrimination against whites.
I agree that his sex, race, etc., shouldn’t count if he’s otherwise qualified to be a police officer. On the other hand, degrees in particle physics and cosmology (or cosmetology) don’t add anything to a LEO application.
