LONDON President Donald Trump has waded into the most controversial issue in British politics by urging the U.K. government to leave the European Union without a deal if it cant get better terms from EU leaders.
Trump told the Sunday Times in an interview published Sunday that Britain should walk away from talks and refuse to pay a 39 billion pound ($49 billion) divorce bill if it doesnt get better terms from the EU.
The president also says Brexit party leader Nigel Farage should be given a role in the negotiations.
The comments come just before Trump begins a state visit Monday to Britain, hosted by Queen Elizabeth II.
Trump has also taken the unusual step of saying that Conservative Party leadership candidate Boris Johnson would make an excellent leader for the U.K.

I have been saying that Teresa May’s mistake was not just leaving and then negotiating from a position of independence.
Instead, she negotiated from a position of weakness and begged the EU to state their terms....so the EU tried to make it as painful as possible.
He’s absolutely right and I’m betting not just the majority but the vast majority of Brits will agree with him on this.
Why should the UK pay a nickle to leave the EU ?
That may all be true but why is he opining on a controversial matter of great importance before the British people? We don’t like it when foreign leaders try telling us what to do.
I support Trump but he doesn’t have to, and should not, comment on everything.
May is like the people driving down the street who have a green light but slow down more and more as they approach the intersection just hoping it’ll go red.
My sentiments exactly.
Three guesses why the UK was likely involved up to its bum in Spygate....
Wow. Complete obliteration of all protocols. Only Trump can do this...
HA...President Trump should get “consulting fees” for his negotiating training for the Brits.
UK, just leave. Why would there be any fee for leaving? What a scam.
Good analogy.
The president also says Brexit party leader Nigel Farage should be given a role in the negotiations... has also taken the unusual step of saying that Conservative Party leadership candidate Boris Johnson would make an excellent leader for the U.K.

Brexit situation and how the common folk see the issue (by laughing out loud). Explains why Thersa May suffered a huge defeat.
Who has the leverage?
Just rip up the deal and move on.
If the EU wants something, they better hurry and strike a deal before President nails down a deal
You can tell Juncker to ESAD too.
