We are basically at (a unique kind of) war with China. Goes beyond trade. They have been in this mindset for a long time, we are only now waking up.

I (completely) agree.

We have eagerly been involved with selling out our own companies to China for THIRTY YEARS.

Both political parties. For real.

It is ABOUT TIME we finally got a pro-American, in the presidency.

Trump is a savior.

None too soon. It is ABOUT DARNED TIME.

Really. America first, for heaven’s sake.

We’re blessed Trump got China to show their hand before a major conflict started... Now we know where we’re weak, where we have to shore up and lucky for us - we have the time to do it.

Sometimes good measures are first dressed up as bad news.

This will result in short-term market correction, then weaning away from China as a supplier.

I hope they keep talking like this.

Who’s jumping for joy?

VIETNAM.

I have a great idea.

Why dosn’t China just stop making anything for the U. S.?

If this was a good idea, that should be even better.

Imagine the crater that would open up under China.

“Oh the U. S. is hurting us with tariffs. We should just stop doing business with the U. S. That will resolve any issues...”

LOL

Long past time to bring all manufacturing back to the USA... and as much production of raw materials as is geographically and geologically possible.

As much of a ‘cheapskate’ as I am, I’m getting to the point that I’d be willing to pay double for everything and breathe factory smoke rather than be held hostage to every dang tinpot dictator who happens to rule over a place that has some good natural resources.

The story sounds ginned up by the media and ‘analysts’. Nowhere did the PRC say ‘hey roundeyes, we pull plug on your medicine...”.

It’s not just China. I watched as senior politicians of both parties outsourced the American garment industry to the Philippines.

It’s NOT ginned up. Look at this short (less than 3 minutes) interview Melissa Francis did:

I know that there’s someone on here much more knowledgeable on the topic than I, but, on other threads about how our medicine is made, some have talked about how after a trademark/patent runs out, the pharmaceutical companies have another way of preventing the production of generics. But, they have no problem outsourcing the production to China or India, where the quality control is much lower than if the drug were made in the US. And the FDA has no protocols for making sure the stuff coming from China is of good quality. Same for Canada, where folks go because of the lower costs, because they get their stuff from the same places.

That just means they loose another sector. Trump pulls manufacturing back in house. China looses reputation for making medicine and looses another sector.

Been to China worked on a localization project (translation for software)and there was something just wrong there. Worked with Russians as well in my career. Anytime you walk in a office or hallway and the people immediately shut up there is something going on that’s not right.

stupid commies - russia and china are bad

I heard her recently IIRC on Coasttocoast, pretty bad.

Like we are finding out about everything lately, one cannot depend on

1. the chinks to be honest, or

2. OUR INSPECTORS TO PROPERLY INSPECT even any small bit.

It shouldn’t and wouldn’t be double.

That just what they love to tell us.

There’s always a way.

Anyone ever look at their expense sheet and think “My God, i can’t pay my bills!!”

but if you look at everything close enough and prioritize and whittle you end up having a surplus.

There’s ALWAYS some way to make a product competitively priced.

But it kills the mantra of “it must be made in China!”

I spent a month in China recently. Most of the money (ownership) of Chinese companies is from Hong Kong or Taiwan.

The Chinese company owner and international businessman told me that if there is a trade war, lots of factories will be moved to Taiwan, India or other countries so that the tariffs don't disrupt company sales.

India is a huge source of US medical drugs. If China disrupts things (just like with the rare earth threat) US business will either open mines and facilities in the US, or we will find other world market source beyond China.

Well, then they can start a nice little epidemic somewhere in California or another sanctuary State full of illegals, homeless people, crap and dope needles in the streets.

That'll guarantee that even if the then President wants to stand fast and deal with it ourselves they'll be overruled by Congress when it comes down to whether or not the US will buckle under on damn near everything else in order to get urgently needed medicine.

“...too dependent on China for medication...”

The US must work so as not to be dependent on any nation. We may complain about the cost of medication, but becoming dependent by going cheap should not be the solution.
