Why Nancy Pelosi isn’t talking Trump impeachment
McClatchy DC ^ | May 29th, 2019 | By David Lightman

Most congressional Democrats heard one message in Robert Mueller’s public statement on Wednesday: It’s up to you to punish President Donald Trump.

But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi signaled unwillingness Wednesday to take a leap that many on the political left have already made — impeachment.

Investigating and potentially impeaching Trump dominated Capitol Hill hall talk on Wednesday, both behind closed doors where influential Democrats urge starting an inquiry and out loud among progressives demanding action.

Pelosi didn’t utter the word Wednesday in her terse five-paragraph statement issued two hours after Mueller left it to Congress to investigate Trump further.

“The Congress holds sacred its constitutional responsibility to investigate and hold the President accountable for his abuse of power,” Pelosi said. “The Congress will continue to investigate and legislate to protect our elections and secure our democracy. The American people must have the truth.”

Mueller said in his statement, “If we had had confidence that the president did not commit a crime, we would have said so.”

Notably, Mueller also said he did not have the power to indict the president.

Buried in the article: Only 38 House members have called for impeachment, per Pelosi.

People, they don't even have a majority of the Dim caucus in the House.

I also think Pelosi might be in no hurry on this, as it would be beneficial to the dems to have impeachment hearings taking place closer to the 2020 campaigns and election. JMHO

They don’t want to look petty and vindictive but that ship has already sailed.

Impeachment is a political SLAUGHTER for the Dems and Pelosi knows it.... Unfortunately though her party has pandered to the nutter vote for so long and is so dependent on it.. that their nutter base is demanding it...

So, she’s caught between a rock and hard place.... Impeach, and Senate will acquit, to satisfy her base, and be SLAUGHTERED up and down the ballot in 2020... Or Don’t impeach, and likely see the crazy faction of her party grow in 2020 as the nutters take the party even further into whackadoo land.

As for me, I say, Put up or Shut up....

When you are dealing with teenagers who keep threatening to do self destructive things because they don’t get their way, eventually you just tell them.... Fine, go ahead.... and let them learn the hard way.

So, to the DEMS.. you want to impeach.. Just do it.. you can do it at any time...could have since January of this year.. so.. go for it, or SHUT UP!...

Of course they don’t... its always been a non starter....

However if Dems want to impeach.. PUT THE CHARGES UP FOR A VOTE and take it to the floor.... Tired of this teenager threats that amount to nothing....

PUT UP OR SHUT UP.

They just want to be a Sword of Damocles over Trump during the campaign. And Mueller made sure that it will be.

That’s why Trump should Triple Dog Dare them to impeach him. Get it all out in the open now.

With all due respect, “38 members calling for impeachment” is not the same as “38 members voting for impeachment”. Once the Dem leadership signals they are behind impeachment, everyone on the Dem side (and a few Rs) will fall into place...

“38 members voting for impeachment”

You’ll never see a vote in committee, much less on the floor of the House.

The only thing worse for Democrats than an acquittal in the Senate, is a failed floor vote in the House. And it would fail.

Remember, if 100 members sign a discharge petition there MUST be a vote on the floor and the speaker can’t stop it.

But those 100 votes are not there.

We in the Trump movement need to start GETTING LOUD now. We must make it clear that the Constitutional militias will go to active duty to protect OUR PRESIDENT.

It’s probably time to make that capability visible — but NOT through violence (yet). For now, it’ll be enough to stage armed demonstrations so the Dims and the Deep State understand the stakes.

All your points are valid... and here’s another (mentioned yesterday by Tucker Carlson):

If Trump goes after the perpetrators of the hoax on his own (as he should do) he will look like he is picking a fight, with some people (stupidly) thinking he’s being overly aggressive.

But if he goes after the perpetrators of the hoax IN HIS OWN DEFENSE as a result of an impeachment/trial, he will appear much more justified and even righteous in doing so.

I personally believe he SHOULD go on the offensive, no matter what, but I understand Tucker’s reasoning, that Trump’s DEFENSE will garner more sympathy than if he’s on the OFFENSE.

It boils down to this;

Best economy/jobs in decades for some, best ever for others

VS

He didn’t act all proper and lawyerly while we were trying to frame him so we must impeach

Which one brings on the first lady’s thought of “I don’t really care. Do You?”

They can be petty and it will probably hurt the economy. That’s not gonna get them votes in 2020. People are making money now if they so choose. They don’t care if GEOTUS didn’t act like the lawyerticians. In fact, some of us actually like it.

Nancy wants to keep her ride. There are lots of special perks that come with being Madam Speaker. Nancy knows she will lose the gavel after the next election if they hold an impeachment vote because the majority of REGISTERED VOTERS do not like this. Registered voters know it is just petty politics and a waste of time. Registered voters actually want their representatives in Congress to accomplish something like a vote on infrastructure where they have common ground. She can’t even get that done.

Nancy gets to fly coast to coast whenever she wants on a nice jet provided by the USA. She does not want to lose that and all the other things that come with having the majority. Basically, she needs to crack the whip and keep the children in line.

“Buried in the article: Only 38 House members have called for impeachment, per Pelosi.”

And those loons are open about it because it’s “red meat” for the morons who re-elect them every two years. The rest of them, particularly the one’s that managed to get elected by flipping a GOP seat, will avoid taking a position for obvious reasons.
