More than 230 undocumented immigrants detained at the southern border have been transferred to New York area jails, including the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.
Hudson County Freeholder Bill ODea said approximately 100 of those detainees are now at the county jail in Kearny, which houses undocumented immigrants under a controversial agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In response to a surge in border arrivals that began late last year, ICE began using the New York area Correctional Facilities in May 2019 to temporarily hold persons encountered at the Southern Border who aware awaiting adjudication of their cases before the federal immigration courts, ICE spokeswoman Rachael Yong Yow said in a statement.
A total of 235 immigrant detainees were moved to facilities in Hudson and Bergen counties, as well as Orange County, New York, according to the New York Daily News, which first reported the transfers.
In addition to the 100 new detainees at the Kearny jail, some 70 women and 50 men who crossed the southern border are now being held at the Bergen County Correctional Facility in Hackensack, the Daily News reported.

Victor Salama, executive director of First Friends of New Jersey and New York, said the arrival of 100 new immigrant detainees to the Hudson County jail will put additional stress on the local social services community, like his group.
Salama, whose organization provides a variety of services to detainees and asylum seekers, from transportation to emergency housing, echoed ODeas concerns.
I think its a very important point to make now that Hudson County becomes a depository for any ICE detainee from anywhere, he said. The local connection is lost.
But Jersey City, Newark etc are sanctuary cities.
I think we are doing this wrong.
The fact that we think we MUST house foreign invaders by the tens of thousands is clear indication America as we know it is gone.
There will be a war. Nature always corrects.
Unleash them in NY.
Every detainee should get sent to a jail a state that has bent over backwards to accommodate these invaders.

What "local connection" is he talking about? The detainees local connection to El Salvador? LOL.
If the Hudson County jail gets filled, then send them to live with Governor Phail Murphy and his AG who is suing the Trump administration to protect these illegal invaders.
This is how moronic the libtards are. 100,000 illegals a month pouring in but they dont realize all those poor people are going to end up in their gentrified urban death zones. Where the hell did they think they were going to end up? In rural/suburban communities where they are also not welcome and stand out like a sore thumb? They want them in the country but never anticipated they would actually be in their neighborhoods?
Just put them on trains that never stop.
Indeed. We seem to feel that if a “legitimate” claim is made for some sort of asylum, then we just HAVE to take them in. Why? Why on Earth do we have to do that?
People who want to immigrate should go to a US embassy in their home country, fill out paperwork, and wait to hear from us if we want them to cross the border.
I think we should seal the border with no exceptions. I’m at the point where I think we should shoot mobs and chase them back into the desert.
Let the commie mayor pay for all of their expenses out of his own pocket. The only problem is that any money that Billy has ever made is from other people’s taxes.
Why do ANY illegals have to have their cases “adjudicated”? Just put them back across the border
Won’t DeBlasio just let them all out?
Wilhelm needs more voters
Why would you say such a thing? Just because we're bringing in millions of crimigrants; unwashed and unwanted who, we know, are going to scatter into America's shadows at the first chance; wetbacks (as in, Ike's "Operation Wetback") we'll never, ever, be able to deport until they commit a serious crime?
Other than that, what's the problem?
It costs more to ship them to New York than to ship them right back across the border.
This is why the country is bankrupt. Smart people we have in power.
Or dry van trailers that never stop. In the early ‘90’s, I worked for a liquidation company that sold assets of bankrupt and foreclosed businesses. One company had a bunch of rolling stock including trailers that were filled with barrels of hazardous waste. We learned that it was cheaper for the entities that were saddled with ownership of the waste to keep it on the move in big rigs than to store it in a legal fixed location or dispose of it.
The list goes like this -
1) southern barrier;
2) require eVerify to hire;
3) end all chain migration;
4) birthright per Minor v. Happersett (plural parents);
5) end work visas;
6) 10-year moratorium on all new applications for citizenship (40 years to allow workplace automation effects on downsizing population)
7) demonstrate English proficiency to acquire citizenship and pass civics test.
Enactment of these provisions will motivate illegal aliens to self-deport.
Also consider reciprocation of the laws of the countries of origin of the illegal aliens. For example, Mexico doesn’t allow land ownership or voting to immigrants, and doesn’t honor birthright citizenship like its citizens expect from the U.S. We should offer the same deal to them.
