Trump Tweets About Roy Moore

Republicans cannot allow themselves to again lose the Senate seat in the Great State of Alabama. This time it will be for Six Years, not just Two. I have NOTHING against Roy Moore, and unlike many other Republican leaders, wanted him to win. But he didn’t, and probably won’t.....

More ...If Alabama does not elect a Republican to the Senate in 2020, many of the incredible gains that we have made during my Presidency may be lost, including our Pro-Life victories. Roy Moore cannot win, and the consequences will be devastating....Judges and Supreme Court Justices! 8,678 replies 15,066 retweets 60,477 likes

Those guys undermined Moore because they knew damn well that he would be one of the most unreliable GOP votes in the U.S. Senate on almost ANY issue....

I wouldn’t even have counted on Moore to vote for Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court ... and that’s really saying something.

You've made a lot of claims.

Back them.

Go back and do some research on Moore's track record in prior GOP primary elections in Alabama.

The guy ran against a popular incumbent Republican governor in the 2006 primary ... and then actually had the nerve to complain that the primary election was rigged against him after he lost by a wide margin.

He never conceded the race ... which basically makes him the white male Republican version of Stacey Abrams.

I'll ask the same question I posted earlier:

Can you think of a single U.S. Senate bill from 2018 that would have met Moore’s “pro-Constitutional” standards?

He was rightly annoyed with Gov. Riley for not having his back and reappointing him to the Chief Justice seat. That’s the only reason he ran in 2006. There was no similar “grudge match” in the 2017 special.

This does not back your claims.

What did George W. Bush have to do with that? One of Moore's criticisms was that Bush favored Riley in the 2006 primary.

As I've said here many times, the guy is an incompetent politician who doesn't know the first thing about running for these types of elected office.

My claim is that the guy is erratic and would be completely unpredictable in a legislative setting.

That's pretty much true by definition because he's never been in a legislative setting before.

How would I be able to answer that question unless he was the sitting Senator ? You keep making speculations about his voting record that aren’t grounded in reality. If he was another Amash, that would’ve been readily apparent in his past judicial record and during his Senate candidacy. Did he get Amash’s endorsement for Senator ?

You've said several times here that Moore would have been a pro-constitutionalist and fought against the GOP establishment in D.C.

But then you insist that he would have voted with the GOP consistently as a U.S. Senator.

Which is it?

I agree with your first statement, by the way. That's why I think he'd be completely ineffective in a legislative setting but much more effective in a judicial or executive role.

I've worked in managerial roles for years ... and the first thing that came to mind when Moore ran in 2017 was that he was applying for the wrong job.

I did not back Moore in that 2006 primary, because it was ill-advised, and I was disappointed in Riley. He needed to be back on the court. Of course, now that we’ve seen that Shrub proved a fiasco for the country and the GOP, that criticism by Moore had some merit.

Moore isn’t a politician, he’s a jurist. Criticizing him for not being an expert politician is NOT a negative.

That’s exactly my point. If he’s a jurist then he should stick to a judicial career. My criticism of his lack of political skills is that he NEEDS them to be a successful candidate.

Voting pro-Constitutional and pro-GOP are not exclusively mutual. By that definition, you could claim the Democrats by voting against all GOP-led measures are pro-Constitutional, and they aren’t. You are attempting to make conclusions on his voting record that you cannot do, because there is no evidence to support it. The only way to have known is for him to have been elected.

You say he would’ve been more effective in an executive capacity, yet you berated him for running for Governor.

I think you’re allowing personal feeling and biases to cloud your judgment on Moore and making assumptions he would be an instant failure as a Senator. If this were a courtroom, you would not have enough evidence for this to even be brought to trial.

BTW, I’ve mentioned it before, I preferred having PSC President Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh run for the Senate seat in 2020. The downside to Moore’s candidacy is his age, and one tends to need 2 terms locked in to generally be effective. Two terms would bring him to a month before his 86th birthday in January 2033.

With Mo Brooks not in, we’re left with another establishment puppet candidate Bradley Byrne, and that is unacceptable. I don’t know squat about Tommy Tuberville, he could end up a flake like that coach Congressman from Nebraska, Tom Osborne, who went squishy on illegals.

It’s also pretty much false by definition because he’s never been in a legislative setting before.

Sticking to a judicial career in AL requires RUNNING. You can’t just merely be appointed (except to a brief vacancy) as in some other states where your name doesn’t appear on the ballot.

My personal bias against Moore is based on the fact that he was an awful candidate who lost in one of the most heavily Republican states in the U.S.

Look at the article at the top of this thread. Do you think President Trump has a personal bias against him?

Keep in mind that I’m one of the few Freepers who has publicly said I would have voted for Moore in 2017 even if every allegation against him was TRUE.

See Post #70. That’s the equivalent of interviewing for a senior management job and telling your boss that you’re first order of business is to get working to undermine the chairman of the board.

And lest you think that was not a big deal, just remember that Mo Brooks made the same promise when HE ran in the GOP primary in 2017 ... and he has already announced that he won’t be running in 2020. He knows he destroyed any future he might have had as a U.S. Senate candidate.

He was a candidate who endured a level of slander that no one could’ve overcome. He had the entire establishment against him, “Republicans” urging the voters to vote for the Democrat (or effectively desert him, which would mean a de fact vote for the Democrat), combined with voter fraud and chicanery. The deck was completely stacked against him. That all has to be taken into consideration.

President Trump (wrongly) endorsed the profoundly flawed Luther Strange, who was openly tied to a corrupt Governor and engaged in quid pro quo for the appointment in 2017. I think he should’ve stayed out of it (and should in this instance as well).

This entire mess was precipitated by then-Gov. Bentley. Had he not been lacking in ethics, we’d have had a Senate appointee (not Strange) who likely would’ve been confirmed by the voters by acclimation. I do not blame Moore for the situation. He saw an opportunity and took it. Ultimately, we’d have been better off had Mo Brooks been the nominee (though he, too, would’ve endured all manner and sort of slander and character assassination — probably stuff they would’ve rolled out against Moore for all we know).

He absolutely could have overcome all that slander. He ran an inept, half-assed campaign yet lost by only 1.5% of the vote.

Roy Moore simply couldn’t overcome Roy Moore.

If I had been in public office fighting very public battles for most of my adult life, I probably could.
