German government backtracks on Jewish skullcap warning, urges everyone to wear it ahead of anti-Israel protest
The German government urged people to wear the Jewish kippa in the wake of an upcoming anti-Israel protest, backtracking on the warning that Jewish people should conceal their religious identity and avoid wearing the religious skullcap.
Felix Klein, the government’s anti-Semitism commissioner, sparked international controversy after saying in an interview with a regional press group that he “cannot recommend to Jews that they wear the skullcap at all times everywhere in Germany.”
Israeli President Reuven Rivlin promptly called out the German government, saying it shows that Jews are increasingly unsafe in the country and called the statement a “capitulation to anti-Semitism.”
“The statement of the German government’s anti-Semitism commissioner that it would be preferable for Jews not wear a kippa in Germany out of fear for their safety, shocked me deeply,” Rivlin’s statement said.
“We will never submit, will never lower our gaze and will never react to anti-Semitism with defeatism -- and expect and demand our allies act in the same way.”
U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell also condemned the statement and urged Jewish people and others to wear a kippa.
“The opposite is true. Wear your kippa. Wear your friend’s kippa. Borrow a kippa and wear it for our Jewish neighbors. Educate people that we are a diverse society,” he tweeted.

Clarification of my post on the last thread.
In fairness to the minister, he knows his country. And his advice is no different that advice given by other officials, including religious, in Germany, France, Holland, England and elsewhere. Personally I wouldn't walk through Dearborn wearing a kippa. And I can defend myself here, unlike in Europe.
Actually I wouldn't walk through Dearborn at all.

Agree. In the same manner, we should start wearing MAGA hats if that’s our wish. However, in both cases, any aggression against the wearers should be returned with interest.

This is going to get interesting. The ‘Refugees’ there don’t like to be goaded and double-crossed. They had a major victory in excising the ‘Zionist Look’, and now they’re going to have it all in their faces, with many others joining in.

Denmark was conquered by the Germans in 1940. The story is (possibly apocryphal) was that when the order was issued that Danish Jews don the star, the king announced that he’d be wearing a star and expected all good Danes to follow suit. Regardless if the story is true or not, Denmark did a better job of protecting Danish Jews than any other conquered nation. Not only were Jews smuggled out to neutral Sweden, but the government actively kept track of and did their best to aid Danish Jews who actually did end up in camps.

I agree with you. And the truth is hidden deep in the article. The headline mentions an “anti-Israeli protest”. But who is protesting? Neo-Nazis? German imperialists?

Al-Quds day is a Muslim thing!
The one wearing it has to think long and hard. He’s putting himself in harm’s way, and I can’t tell him what to do. But it’s touching that now it’s fashionable to make a stand, instead of just piling on the nearest Jew. The country that gave us kristalnacht is changing for the better. Even if only one counter-demonstrator wears both a kippah and a big yellow star of David that one time, then if Germans last a thousand years, that would be a much better hour.
It’s meant to be a self-fulfilling prophesy.
