“They are growing quickly as one of the largest military in the world and also are technologically as capable as the United States,” he told FOX Business’ Maria Bartiromo Opens a New Window. on Tuesday.
“They’ve caught us in a lot of the advantages that we have had… the military capability is beginning to dominate the Pacific region and that’s what clearly is on their minds and they may replace the United States as the global power in the world today. It is their military that is going to help them do that as well as their economic engine,” he explained.

I still recall the echos of "peace dividend" (money saved on military expenditures) from certain people immediately after the fall of the Berlin wall. They were hushed up very quickly by the neocons and corporate conservatives.
I worked in the ‘MIC’. China cant match our innovation. Period. Paper Tiger. Might they get in a few good shots? Probably. But they wouldn’t know what hit them after that.

The bottom line is we don’t make much of anything any more.
Buy lots of "stuff" then we will be okay.
It makes a big difference.
Every time we purchase something from one of these, or any other country, that is wealth being transferred out of the US to that country.
That trade deficit we have with China is money they use to build up their military, conduct research, etc.
That is money, if it were to stay here, that we could use for the same reasons. Plus, it creates jobs. Jobs mean money and help with wealth creation.
As we out-source our ability to manufacture the technical knowledge required for that goes as well.
Those countries learn (steal) our technical abilities.
China and India are robbing us blind.
We will begin to lose that technical knowledge.

The questions to ask are why and who benefits?
Plenty of stuff is made in the US if one bothers looking and have the will to pay a little more to keep funds in-country. It’s getting better all the time.
I agree with you? I recall vividly during the Cold War how we were being told the Russian military was our equal and on the verge of surpassing us at any time.
It was only after they collapsed (thanks to R Reagan)that we learned we had a 5-1 advantage in nukes while the CIA was telling us they were our equal as far as nukes.

If China was all that, they would have already fired on US assets in the South China Sea, where they are the strongest.
We need to stop fighting wars that do NOT belong to us.
Then we need to fight OUR war on our OWN border.
And as long as China can steal our tech then invade our own markets, then it just will not make sense to innovate in the USA:

We have approx 18 Ohio class missile subs , each capable of carrying 24 missiles and each missile capable of carrying 8 warheads each independently targetable. This means just one of our subs can fire 192 nuclear warheads (each warhead has approx 5 to 80 times the explosive force of bombs dropped on Japan in 1945) and the subs can be within range of any target on the planet within a max timeframe of 7 days.
And remember, we have 18 of these subs with about 12 on patrol at any given time with their precise location being unknown even to our own military.

That makes me feel and sleep a little bit better at night with that great deterrent. But I imagine there will be a pretty good heavy conventional exchange before that stuff will come into play.
Exactly! Not just the conscripts doing the grunt work, but the engineers doing the technological development and Innovation and project management. Greed is a great motivator and the Communist system really mitigates that greed factor to achieving your Highest Potential. And I mean greed in the best possible way. Greed for Freedom. Greed for pursuit of Liberty, and personal gain and fulfillment. That’s what’s motivating engineers to do what they do for the most part.
Without that, you have lackluster Engineers that don’t dream and innovate except for a few that aren’t smart enough to realize they serve a political Tyrant. And those types that can’t figure that out aren’t your star players anyway.
China has a lot of men and weapons, but do they have the capability to coordinate their forces? Do they have a joint tactical command? Can their forces be depended upon to act independently to achieve mission goals or do they need constant input from the chain of command? Do they have the logistics to field forces far outside of their borders?
China’s modernized military looks great on paper, but it is untested and probably just a paper tiger.
A lot of attention goes to technology, but US forces are trained, hardened and experienced with operations all over the world. We have a culture of trusting our soldiers to carry out the mission without having to be prodded the whole way and letting them think independently to come up with clever solutions on the fly. We only lose wars because our politicians loose their nerve even when our soldiers have won the fight.
