White men who can’t get jobs say they’re being discriminated against
Market Watch ^ | April 2 2019 | Jillian Berman

Some food for thought on Equal Pay Day, April 2. White men who ask for a raise are 25% more likely to get one than people of color, a recent study concludes. And yet white men believe they face an uphill battle in corporate America in 2018.

An engineer who was fired by Google GOOG-0.64% for circulating an anti-diversity memo sued the company in January, alleging that the tech giant discriminates against white, conservative men. He’s likely not alone in that belief.

There are other white men working in tech who believe their gender and race are making it difficult for them to get ahead, according to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center about diversity in the science and technology fields.

The study was conducted by disgruntled black men that do not measure up

Okay, I’ll go there: white men are rather less likely to be affirmative-action hires, which means they met a higher standard to get the job in the first place, which means they are more likely to merit a raise when it comes time for that as well.

And yeah, sure, in some corporate environments, the “clone effect” of senior managers hiring and promoting those most like them also is in effect. And some are likely less keen on promoting women into direct report relationships with the Me Too scare as well.

I find Indians tend to hire Indians and women hire women.

I only ever asked for a raise one time, and didn’t get it.
Rather than risk a confrontation, or criticism I’d just as soon not get, my modus was to perform the best I could and rely on the performance review to boost my pay.

The fact is there is deliberate discrimination against White males who don’t pretend to be females. There is no doubt about it.

This is unquestionably true in my experience. I have worked in both private industry and in government. (I even worked in academia for a brief period but that predominately liberal environment needs no further comment.) This kind of discrimination gets conveniently overlooked and is rarely frowned upon. The reality is that we live in a society that is obsessed with political correctness and a blind devotion to diversity, even at the expense of efficiency in organizations and fairness to all.

Equal opportunity for some is a complete myth.

And once they get into management they hire their own kind so the problem proliferates throughout the organization. In liberal speak, it becomes “sustainable”.

There is no question that being a white male will disqualify you from many easy big pay jobs. But lots of white women are getting many of those jobs. Some black men are on 5 boards. While most black men are getting public sector jobs. If you are a white male its easier to take early retirement when offered, promotions are not going your way.

This is a horrible mish mash of an article.

Not worth analysis, but on a high level:

If a company is color-agnostic (as they should be), one would expect the mix of minorities in the company to match the available market.

Now, an expectation has been set to having the company hire a mix of employees based on the general population, meaning 50% women (who are somehow considered a minority).

That means that an employer must work hard to hire more minorities than are available in the available market.

That obviously creates discrimination.

Then the article complains about the how the available market doesn’t match the general population, which is a matter of ability/career choice. This is a completely different issue.

This is terrible, mushy thinking.

When he was getting started, one of my boys worked in two H1-B shops. One was Indian dominated, the other Chinese dominated (in terms of employees and the next level of management). You better believe he was discriminated against when it came to promotion.

I always moved on to another job - with a 20% boost in pay.

"Performance Reviews" are just a distraction to keep people in their places.

Even when managers are capable of recognizing superior performance and talent in the staff (and that is harder than you might think), they are usually constrained from giving any substantial rewards for such.

Yes, Been going on for 20 years in the defense industry.

Young lady had no experience in the discipline, the tools, or management, was promoted to a spot above a senior male with extensive and successful experience in all of the above.

Another was in a position set for a downgrade (from a 6 to a 5) was instead selected for a level 7 Director slot...(NEVER happened before to anyone's recollection).

In the 80's, my very insightful manager/mentor predicted this was the wave of the future.

Now retired, I don't care.

one would expect the mix of minorities in the company to match the available market.

There is no objective set of talents or skills that is evenly distributed by race or ethnic groups. Trying to force such outcomes in the workplace is doomed to failure.

This is the unspeakable truth about "Affirmative Action" and all similar policies.

They amount to a racist spoils system in which lucrative positions are given to politically favored groups at the expense of other groups. "Social Justice" is the cover lie used to soften up and distract the opposition.

Most of the time that matters very little as long as there is a prosperous economy. But then you get a situation where you need a surgeon or an airplane pilot, or an engineer to run the power plants. And then it matters quite a bit.

And if you get a flat or contracting economy, the racist spoils system can lead to bloodshed.
